What is best LPAC or FLAC?

Jan.
ff123
flac is free software (meaning the source code is available for both encode and decode). lpac does not have to be paid for, but the source code is not available.

lpac files are generally smaller than flac files. Also, lpac is the de-facto "standard" among people who frequent this forum or r3mix's for exchanging short audio samples.

Choose your definition of "best" to decide which one you want to use.

is a comparison of all the major lossless compression formats. It neglects to consider current popularity -- the winners in this category would be shorten, lpac, and Monkey's Audio.

As ff123 said, which is best depends upon what criteria are most important to you.

Well, It's for a cd that I can't get again and I want to encode later with mpc.
So it's LPAC or FLAC since that's most convenient (mpc can encode directly from LPAC or FLAC).

Size is what is important.
Playback is not a concern.
