I am using last version of Vorbis from RareWares (Oggenc v. 2.5 with ITP). I am dont know, how to set command line in EAC, so I am using simply qal. 7, without any other settings. Do I any mistake? Is there any default setting for impulse trigger profile and is is listenable? I want simply Q 7, but there is only encoder with impulse trigger profile. Sorry for my poor English.

It's an additionnal switch developped by QuantumKnot, which helps to reduce pre-echo (and also increases the bitrate). Safe to use, except with some portable players suffering from bitrate limitations (like iRiver flash players).

Actually, iRiver players in general, since the HDD and CD players are also affected. wink.gif

Are you sure? HDD jukebox don't suffer AFAIK from the same limitation. At least not the h1xx and the h3xx series.

Yes, but how should I set EAC? I do not want any adittional switches, simply Q7!
Impulse trigger profile will set automatically? Right?

No, if you want to use Impule Trigger Profile, it is an Advanced Encoder Option and must be set additionally.

As John said. You've seen this post right? If you go to 'Using Advanced Encode Settings Affecting Pre-echo Handling' you'll see this:

CODE
oggenc -q n --advanced-encode-option impulse_noisetune=p song.wav
(where p is a number from 0 to -15)

I can speak from experience that my H120 will play stuff all the way up to -q 10 if I so desired it to smile.gif

Just the flash and CD players have the limitations.

CD based players have volume problems - the volume of ogg files is much lower than volume of mp3 and wma - so the dynamic range is alsom lower. What about 'volume' on iHP series?

Please, tell me somebody: When I use Oggenc 2.5 ITP and EAC with predefined settings for OGG Vorbis (qal. 7 - high) without any other switches, the result will be as if I use normal Oggenc? SIMPLY Q7? Will the file sound OK? Thanx.

I think that Vorbis sets some value of Impulse Trigger Profile automaticaly, without switches:
Quote:
By default (with no additional switches), Vorbis selects a different profile for block switching (lower means less switching, higher means higher switching) and the default values are shown in the table below:

CODE+---------+---------+
| Quality | Profile |
+---------+---------+
| -1 | 0 |
| 0 | 1 |
| 1 | 1 |
| 2 | 1.5 |
| 3 | 2 |
| 4 | 2 |
| 5 | 2.5 |
| 6 | 2.7 |
| 7 | 3 |
| 8 | 3.7 |
| 9 | 4 |
| 10 | 4 |
+---------+---------+

So how is it then?

The volume of Vorbis files and mp3s on my unit is the same. Vorbis doesn't get dropped on anything. Basically they fixed it all on the hard drive units but the CD and flash ones still have horrible bugs.

The ITP option is used for fixing some rare problems. Generally, you don't need to use it, and q 7 should sound ok.
