Hi

I'd like to know if there is a standard tag to determine if a track is from an album or if it's just a single.
Something like:
%ALBUMTRACK%=0 or 1
or
%ISFROMALBUM%=0 or 1
or something else

I'd like to use such a tag for sorting files in my playlists and for displaying them differently.

Also i can't use the %ALBUM% tag for this purpose because sometimes i just keep 1 or 2 songs from an album and i want to keep the album name info but just don t want the 2 songs to be displayed as an album

Thanks
Silverbolt
For me, I determine that it's a single if it has only %__replaygain_track_gain%, otherwise assume it's part of an album.

I'm using SINGLE or SINGLETRACK tag for singles.

Please feel free to come up with your own favourite tag for the job.

I just put it in a specific playlist (singles, or something similar).

There is none, because it would usually not be necessary outside of fb2k. Personally, my humble opinion is that relying on custom tags just so that the layout of a single audioplayer works, is bad style.

However, some people have been using SINGLETRACK to mark non-album tracks.

IMHO, all players should be able to use custom tags, and the point is moot. smile.gif

That topic seems to be very important to you. Why not learn to code in C++ and implement it? Then you don't have to try "converting" others at every possible occasion, but can instead do something about it.

I'm seeing your point Lyx, but it's the only way I've found so far to make my 'mixed' playlists look and sound good to me.
Another solution would be to delete %tracknumber% out of every single. Not so good IMO.
Having only track gain for singles is interesting and could make for a standard. Then again not so good when only 2 odd tracks are missing out of a 20 track album (why I said "sound good" in my first sentence).
Actually I'm using %full_album% = 1 or void (ie no tag for singles), but it turned out I've got more full albums than singles so I'm guessing I should switch somehow biggrin.gif

@olive

Well, what you or others use, is your choice. I'm not trying to enforce my personal opinion on others on this topic. The threadstarter asked if theres some established or popular way to do it, so i said that i think this should be fixed in the UI/player instead of working around it with a tag - but if he/she wants to do it, then the singeltrack-tag appears to be used often. So if he wants support for such a tag in existing formatting-strings out-of-the-box, then choosing that tag may be a good choice.

I m not using replaygain but i think that s a good idea

I just put it in a specific playlist (singles, or something similar).

My playlists are as follow :
-1 playlist for all singles only , so no problem with formating and sorting
-3 playlists for all albums only (A to G, H to M and N to Z ) , still no problem here
-1 playlist where i put the latest singles and albums and in this case i need something to display the singles in one way and albums in another way and put the singles at the top of the playlist . Until now my formating and sorting were based on the directory structure but i don t like it much even if it works

In another thread i ve found a link where it seems to be gathered standard tags according format. In the APEv2 section there s a tag called MEDIA and i think i ll use this one ( filling it with Single or Album and i can even Webradio later if i need it) even if it s not really its purpose
