Right, so firefox kept bugging out and blamed it on msvcrt.dll

I think, in all my stupidity that replacing this file (ha ha, C runtimes sad.gif ) would fix the problem, so I replace it with a random copy off of the net and, surprise surpise, XP doesn't even boot sleep.gif

So I have a copy of knoppix 3.7 and STD - 3.7 seems to have read support for NTFS, but no kernel write sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif sad.gif

I've heard that STD has writing, but last time I booted into it I had no idea what the hell to do. (I'm in 3.7 atms).

So what I need to do is simply delete C:\Windows\system32\msvcrt.dll and then rename C:\windows\system32\msvcrt.backup to msvcrt.dll

But how the fuck do I do this (without the XP CD, I have no idea where that is).

Basically I need some way to write NTFS from a live linux distro, and its pissing me off being able to see these two files in konqueror but being powerless to rename them >.<

Please help ASAP!

See if you can get Captive NTFS working:

If you do manage to find your Windows XP CD, you could also try the recovery console.
