Well, after reading carefully lots of topics in Hydrogen forums (fantastic knowledge database for music addicts), now I understand that I've made some errors in my ripping journey

Facts:
1) Ripped +/- 600 CDs to WMA lossless with WMP10 for my living room HTPC.
2) At the end of all this, bought a new Sound Card (AudioTrack Prodigy 7.1 LT) and put back my SB Creative Audigy 2.

Notes to facts:
1) Ok, I understand that FLAC is the most popular lossless codec, but there’s lot of discussion around that, I think that my choice it wasn't not so bad after all(it’s a choice). The choice of ripping with WMP10, THAT was a bad choice, very fast, but with lots of errors should use EAC, right ??
2) Today I understand what IS a sound card FOR music, the creative board it’s really bad(for music listening purpose), with the Creative board I dindn't notice all the "pops" and "clicks" in all those tracks.

I after all these I really need the help of you guys. I've lots of track with errors(not all, but 60% of theme), is there any way to solve this problem without having to copy all those CDs again ?? Any software ??

If there is a sw to resolve this problem(clean "pops" and "clicks") , will I lose quality in the process ?
If there isn’t , EAC is the right choice ? EAC will copy to WMA lossless ? What is the fastest way to copy all the CD's ?

I use the Meddio suite as front end to listening to my music, since it supports WMA lossless codec, is a bad choice in terms of quality ?

EAC can rip direct to WMA Lossless. You will have to re-rip though. It will be slower but worth it. WMA Lossless is a fine choice despite what you may hear from some. I use Apple Lossless though. Most here use FLAC/APE.

If you couldn't hear the errors with the SB card, I think the pops and clicks may actually be clipping and not ripping errors.

Yes, you will loose quality. It is not possible to magically restore/fix/remove the errors that cause the clicks. There are programs that "removes" pops and clicks, but all they can really do is to hide them. Missing data will not magically appear again.

If you are sure the problem is in the files (and not because of playback problem) the best thing to do is to rip those cds again with a good ripper. EAC is a very good choice.

First, you need to decide "for sure" if the clicks are ripping errors or, as another suggested, clipping on playback.

If they are errors, I'd re-rip with EAC.

And, speaking as a flac user, WMA lossless is just fine for your purposes.

But how about ReplayGain?
And what if you (never say never) should move to an OS different than Windows?

FLAC is for archiving, IMHO. As are all lossless codecs.
You should be very, very sure that you can retrieve your info in the broadest of circumstances.
Only FLAC, IMHO, offers this.

But, then again, quality-wise, there should be no difference.

I would check that those files actually do have such pops and clicks, it might be your new sound card. Decode a flac file to wave, then use an audio editor - soundengine is free, load the wave and play, when hear a pop or click stop playback and zoom in to have a look at the audio data, it will be obvious if it is not ripped right (audio is smooth sine waves a pop or click is a sudden square jump up or down).

I had a lot of problems with my Audiotrak soundcard. It's in the closet now. I would do this:

Burn one (or more) of your "bad/clipped" lossless files to an audio CD. Put that CD in a hardware player, and see if it has pops & clicks.

I've used WMA lossless and had no problems at all. The problem could be with your rips, or it could be with your soundcard.

If you do use Windows Media Player 10 to rip, remember to set your CD mechanism to "use error correction"... from "Tools... Options... Devices... Properties" in the WMP 10 GUI. On decent modern mechanisms, you really shouldn't have bad rips unless the discs are really trashed -- and it won't be much different than using EAC.
