Full Version: Foo_osd as a screen saver?

We usually have the jukebox-PC running for 15 hours a day.

With 10k tracks, many of jazz and classical music, often we don't remember what song the now playing one is or we'd like to check who that tenor saxophone or that piano player is (yes, I manually tagged all the tracks with performers and instruments... It's been quite a feat but now it's an envaluable learning instrument - almost an encyclopedia).

With the screen saver running it's annoying having to go all the way to the PC just to move the mouse and read the track info in the panel. In the beginning I set it up with very big characters to be able to read them from a distance but then I thought I couldn't leave it on all the time otherwise my Hercules LCD would last nothing.

The foo_osd plugin would be the best solution if only it would act as a screen saver: presenting itself everytime in a different position and blacking all the background, even outside its needs.
This would let me save space setting a far smaller trackinfo panel where to show just the selected track info, freed from the now playing info.

If you can, please consider the point, one day.

By the way: is the new foo_osd working with 0.8.3 too? I didn't try it to avoid having my settings screwed up by a wrong move.

Thanks for the time spent.

you must meet samurize...
create a config with it and put as screensaver... you can do exactly a "trackinfo", or better, you do what you want...

www.samurize.com

it JUST appears to be hard to do a config, but when you understand the interface it's easy and fun to create new things...

cheers

Thanks to your answer, I've been "samurizing" for the last couple of days and now I have my "trackinfo-screensaver" running with title letters 2 cm high so we can read them easily even from 10 m distant.
Thanks, you were right, that was the solution.

Now, let me ask you a couple of questions:

- of course I'm using the AMPI plugin and its NativePlaylistString function. In the readme, they say it's a sort of "format" command. Do you know if in samurize there is an if then function? I mean: is there a way to change the color of text as we usually do in trackinfo with nowplaying and $if?

- do you know if there is a way to automatically show or hide a text?

- do you know if there is a way to make a text "rotate" through all the colors?

- and a box to automatically resize with the text in it?

Thnaks again.

Bye, Fabio.
