Hi. I am pretty concerned about not buying copy-protected CDs and was curious to see if Enhanced CDs (ECDs) sold today are copy protected. I was searching on the net and I found this page. It says that ECDs follow the "BlueBook Standard". I have heard of Redbook, Yellowbook, what the hell is BlueBook? Anyone knows who set these standards? Are all "BlueBook" compliant disks playable on all audio CD players? Will any ripping program (even the not so good ones like winamp, WMP, etc.) be able to rip the CD without any problems?

I just placed the order for an ECD (Children of Bodom-"Trashed, Lost & Strung Out [EP] [ENHANCED] [EP]" ) and am worried if this is some copy-protected shit. Does anyone have this CD? If it is copy-protected, I will cancel the order. Please let me know.

Thanks.

Blue book is the standard for Enhanced CD, CD+G and CD-Plus. Like the rest of the rainbow books, it was created by Philips and Sony, although this particular standard also recieved support from Microsoft and Apple. It contains one or more Red Book tracks on the first session and a Yellow Book track on the second session. As the audio is Red Book compliant you should be able to rip it without problems.

As far as copy protection goes, it could be or it could not be. Bluebook specifies a bunch of audio tracks and a data track. There could be DRM type software on the data track. Don't run the software, and it doesn't install the DRM and you can rip it just fine.

Disable autorun, in short.

Thanks!! I am glad to know that the RIAA is following SOME standard nowadays!! smile.gif I didn't know that the ECD was actually one of the standards.I always thought it was something cooked up by the RIAA.

I have never in my entire life enebled autorun. I always hated that thing from the day I first saw a CD-ROM drive. smile.gif

Audio CD is red book, enhanced CD is blue book.
Since there are non compliant, corrupted audio CDs, I don't see why there wouldn't be non compliant, corrupted enhanced CDs.

Funny how a few months ago I purchased a copy protected album (by Linkin Park - "Meteora") that was also enhanced. I couldn't view the video or rip any of the tracks at all with my drive so I ended up having to get an old non-burner Liteon from my previous system.
