Considering that the intner connection i have is poor and not consistent I downloaded a database from freedb.org. then I set up EAC to use local database.

However EAC does not identify many of my albums correctly. However when I ask EAC to get data from remote database the album and all tags (incl. Year and genre) are correctly identified and populated.

what gives?

Wow, that database is over 300M. Are you sure that this is easier than simply connecting to the internet when you want to rip?
Perhaps the database you downloaded is not as up-to-date as the online database.
