Since foobar (ver. 0.8.3) has a bit of a lag in the volume control... I figured it would be beneficial to find some other way of controlling the volume via the default windows volume control... Do any of you know of a good utility or method for making a global shortcut to control the windows volume???

foobar 0.9 has re-implemented 'instantaneous' volume control.

Either:

1. Wait till the final comes out, or
2. Use the beta now, or
3. Move your mouse all the way down to tray and lower the volume (I know it takes effort, but it's not to bad), or
4. Reach for that big old dial on the stereo system named volume.

Seriously, a 500-1000ms delay can't be that big of a deal. How often are you changing volume? Less then every 500-1000ms?

It's the principle of the thing sad.gif (I have OCD)

no but seriously.. won't um... updating to the new foobar version make a lot of my plugins incompatible (playlist tree, for example...)

Yep, that's why I suggested waiting for the final to come out so that the SDK will be released and plugins will be recompiled.

Gotta love principle, I'm obsessive about things to. Numbers is one, for example. If you have a digital volume control, I can only use even numbers, or the 'five' numbers (i.e. 2,4,5,6,8,10,12,14,15,16,18,20). On analog volume controls, the dial has to line up with one of the notches.

hehe, sounds annoying enough

Anyway... ya I think I'll be patient and wait for the final then.

actually...since the lag also bothers me, i do this:

1. Preferences > Components > Volume control toolbar
2. Switch "Control which device:" from Foobar2000 internal to your sound card
3. Choose which control (i do Master Volume)

then...

4. Core > Keyboard Shortcuts
5. In the Actions pane scroll down to "[main] Components/Volume toolbar..."
6. Select the action, type in the key combo, check "Global Hotkey" and click "Add"

yep yep! laugh.gif

Works for me until 0.9.

That works perfectly! Thanks a lot.. Can't believe I didn't think of this before!

Is the volume setting in fb2k linear or exponential?
kl33per
Linear. And the other type is Logarithmic, not exponential.
