Full Version: MPC batch encoder simply doesn't work
Hydrogenaudio Forums > Lossy Audio Compression > MPC

have got mpc batch encoder 2.31 with all the relevant back ends in the same folder (mppenc 1.15v replaygain tag.exe mppdec etc etc) but whatever i'm doing (encoding/decoding/replaygain) the command prompt box appears for a split second and then disappears and nothing happens.
exactly the same happens if i use multifrontend.
i can rip fine from cd with quintessential and dbpoweramp to mcp.
strangely if i put mppenc 1.15v into frontah 0.92 beta 2's folder it converts wav to mpc fine..(btw thats what i'm trying to do with mpc batch encoder).
at the risk of getting slaughtered for missing something obvious...any idea's???
ps
i have NO intrest in dos command prompts..so its a windows gui dor me or forget it
(just lazy--want things to work fast with little input from me) crying.gif

Hmm.. have you tried deleting "MPC Batch Encoder.ini"?
scottydog90
yep..just tried it no luck..???
have completely deleted all files and re-installed...no work????
have tried the files on my sons pc and all works fine.(we both have xp sp2).
no error message appears so i assume all "windows" files are ok....mpc batch enc just don't run??????
i'm no newbie so i just don't get how it can't run???
CiTay
Have you checked what he says in the readme.txt:

QUOTE
If you get an error when you try to run MPC Batch Encoder you need one (or maybe both) of the following files, depending on the error message:
- Visual Basic 6 Runtime files. Get it here: http://download.microsoft.com/download/5/a...B290887-X86.exe
- mscomctl.ocx. Get it here: http://members.home.nl/w.speek/download/MSCOMCTL.ZIP

yep no probs there all that stuff is on my pc......
have re-installed in a new "virgin" folder and all works ticketty boo...
however re-install into my old folder and it don't work?????
can only assume theres a rogue file in my original install folder??
after all that i don't think the sound is as "rich and textured" as ogg
so maybe i''ll turn to ogg.....more testing methinks..
thx for replying
CiTay
Glad you solved it.

Could you please back up such interesting findings of yours by some valid abx results.

ABX. it's right there.
picmixer
Well if you want to participate in this forum you should have an idea what abx is about.

Please read the terms of service and especially TOS #8

This community is about what people can prove that they can hear not not about what they believe they can hear.
scottydog90
thx digga and picmixer for your responses..i took a quick look at your links and almost became comatose by there length and tediousness..i appreciate fully wot u guys do on this forum, but some of us do not have degrees in audio/english/command prompts etc etc.
i wish to use the knowledge of you guys that ARE technically minded to further my own knowledge of various music compression so that i get the best sound/speed of compression on my pc for my listening pleasure.
some stuff i've tried emits from the speakers like an old binatone radio, and other stuff sounds near enough like the cd...but i don't know the phrasology to back up what i'm saying, nor do i want to try.
i fully understand you have general "rules" as most forums do,but try to be a bit more understanding to us thickies..
picmixer
By no means we mean to be not understanding smile.gif

It is just that this community is strongly based on scientific evaluation of different audio codecs. For this reason any claims about audio quality have to be backed up by valid abx tests.

This is simply to avoid the useless arguments and chatter going on in other communities about "tonal purity", "warmth", "transients" and god knows what kind of terms they can come up with.

Performing an abx test really isn't that much of a rocket science and can be learned quite easily if you look into it. Of course I can perfectly understand that you might lack the time to look into issues like that.

So feel free to ask questions anytime on this forum to broaden your knowledge on anything related to digital audio. You most likely find many people that are willing to help out. It is just this one issue that statements about audio quality need to be backed up by valid proof that we are quite strict on here. Simply for the reasons mentioned above.

Of course reading the faqs the wiki and the pinned threads usually is welcome before you post any questions.
scottydog90
thx picmixer...excellent reply..totally agree 100% with what you say..you've spurred me on to look more deeply into the abx side of things but at the end of the day there are audiophiles out there that know a hell of a lot more than me,and i'll always bow to their superior knowledge.
toatlly agree about the faq's and threads...nothing more annoying than questions that have already been answered umpteen times.
once again thx for your input......
dreamliner77
If you learn to ABX, you'll know more than most audiophiles laugh.gif

Sorry for reviving an old thread!

The problem I had with some of Case's frontends was because I had installed them on the D: drive, they simply didn't function correctly. Now when I put them on my C: drive which Windows is installed on they functioned perfectly.
dreamliner77
Do you mean Speek's frontends?
