Full Version: Will it be worth it to re-encode?

I have used version 1.01 of the Ogg encoder to encode about 10 albums at around quality 7. Is there a substantial difference between 1.01 and the latest encoder version (I think it's 1.1 or 1.1.1?) that would warrant a re-encoding?

BTW: kind of off-topic, but there wouldn't be any generation loss if you burn FLAC files to a CD-R as data, would there?

I wouldn't, why don't you rip a track or two with old and new and then ABX them to see if you hear a difference? After all, everyone's ears are different.

It depends how long the FLACs are kept on the CD. Flac has great integrity options to check if the files are damaged, so don't worry about not knowing if an error comes about somehow. For permanant storage, I reccomend a harddrive or other storage medium though.

At q 7, there is probably no need to re-encode. The only major difference between 1.1(.1) and 1.0.1 is the fix for the HF boost issue, which only seems to appear at q 5.99 and below. So your encodes at q 7 should be safe from the HF boost problem.
