I picked up a Plextor Premium the other day, everything working fine until this morning.

I popped in 3-4 discs and ripped them in Secure Mode with the latest version of EAC, settings set correctly (Accurate Stream, Cache, C2). I proceeded to insert Hikaru Utada's "Deep River" and told EAC to make an image - at around track 07, it started to do error correction.

Now, this is a clean disc - one that I've ripped before on other drives, so this came as a surprise to me. Even more surprising was when EAC locked up during the ripping process! I killed EAC but couldn't eject the disc until I hard-rebooted it (then pushed the button and the tray came out). Tried it again by setting it into Burst Mode. EAC locked up, again, around the later tracks of the disc. Popped the disc into my LG 4163B and made an image, no problem, no error correction done, nada.

So....what's going on? Is this normal behaviour? Should I quickly RMA the unit while I still have time? crying.gif

You should do a C1/C2/CU scan with Plextools Pro, this way you can see if there are read problems at this position. You can also try to extract the audio with Plextools...
BTW, is the disc maybe copy protected?

...wow, I totally forgot about that. Must be the lack of sleep in the past couple of days rolleyes.gif CU errors would totally account for not being able to read this disc but doesn't explain why they appear, as this disc is 100% clean...

Never mind, then, and thank you StisTi for reminding me about C1/C2/CU test smile.gif Time to replace the CD then sad.gif But that doesn't explain why my LG 4163B can rip it perfectly, track quality ~100%, no errors detected....

If the CRC of the tracks match with the LG, it is time to RMA that Premium.
