I have this (legally) downloaded mp3 file. When playing it in foobar2000, the status bar displays "MP3 320kbps" constantly. However, when I look at the properties of the file, in the other info box, this information is displayed:

enc_delay = 576
enc_padding = 2208
mp3_accurate_length = yes
bitrate = 319
codec = MP3
channels = 2
samplerate = 44100
extrainfo = VBR
mp3_stereo_mode = joint stereo
tagtype = id3v2|id3v1

Isn't this kind of strange? If the file is 320kbps CBR, why is 319 and VBR displayed? Please clear this up.

Its probably a VBR file with the bitrate set so high that 99% of the frames are 320k and you never see the occasional 256k frame. I've seen this happen with preset extreme in LAME on music with extreme amount of noise and music combined (IE heavy metal). Occasionally you get a song that LAME gives essentially 320k to every frame.

this might sound silly, but try removing the tags and retagging it.

Depends whether FB2K is set to constantly poll the bitrate, or just display an average:)
