which playlist file type should i use?
m3u or fpl? or another... i want one that will be the most cross platform or cross media player compatable.
what programs do you use to generate your playlists?
i use foobar the most but also itunes.
edit:
my organised collection is in flac, my unorganised collection is in mp3s. i want only playlists for flac... still m3u?

For compatibility purpose i only use M3u playlists...
I used to use PLS playlists when I was still on winamp. Similar to FPLs, they store metadata info so that winamp doesn't have to do its reload from file every time.
Then I used FPLs for a while, for the same reason. But a couple months ago I finally started to use foobar's database. With the database it's effectively just as fast to load the info from there as it would be from the playlist. So m3u lists are just as good, smaller, and compatible if I have some reason to use some other player.

FPL's paths aren't relative. Therefore if you move your music, the playlists will break.

Paths in FPL playlists are relative, if the linked files are in the same directory as the FPL file or in a subdirectory. At least that is the case with foobar2000 v0.9; it was probably the same in v0.8.3, but I don't remember for sure.
M3U should be most compatible though.
So is there a way to make Foobar use M3U by default rather than FPLs? When you load a M3U playlist, foobar creates a FPL list from it in the foobar folder.

Foobar2000 uses FPL for it's internal playlists. I don't really see a reason to change that.
