Yesterday i recieved an error message when inserting a CD in EAC:

NativeSCSI.504 -> INDEX-RANGE crying.gif

i figured it would be a problem with the native win32 interface SPTI, all other applications could access the CD normally though (explorer, foobar, WMP).
that's why i installed ASPI drivers.

first i installed the adaptec ASPI 4.71a2 layer. ASPIcheck said everything sould be fine, but EAC could'nt find my CD drive (QSI CDRG/DVD SBW-241) at all. sad.gif

then i put the nero ASPI 2.0.1.74 into my EAC folder, with great results:
EAC could find my drive and read the CD i was having trouble with. biggrin.gif
it was also a little bit faster than SPTI (a very slight difference, but hey i noticed it wink.gif )

i ripped the troublemaker CD without any problems, but when i tried the next CD something weird happened: the ASPI layer read the tracklenght of one track wrong. it seems to me like it doesn't realize when the track ends it just keeps on reading to the end of the disc. ohmy.gif look at the screenshot: track 9's lenght is defenetly wrong! you can see that track 10 starts wayyy before track 9 ends... in SPTI track lenghts were OK

(i put a rectangle around it so you find i can find it quickly wink.gif )
i tried 2 more CDs and just let EAC read the TOC, one of them was ok, the other showed the same error
[-> i total tested 4 CDs, 2 had wrong track length -> 50%]

i couldn't find any error reports like this anywhere. does anybody know why this happens? is there something i can do to avoid it? except switching back to SPTI, which i already did of course, but as you can see, EAC can't read certain discs with my drive. or is there anything i could do when i get the NativeSCSI.504 -> INDEX-RANGE error (in SPTI native interface)?

i thought maybe a different ASPI driver would solve the problem and heard that VOB ASPI is good, but i couldn't find it, only dead links everywhere... mad.gif
does anybody know where to download the VOB ASPI please?

thanks for any help in advance
philipp

ps: is this a known bug? should i report it somewhere? if yes where?

Very strange. Do other rippers report wrong track lengths? Also, have you tried to manually detect TOC? (Action > TOC Alterations > try the options you have here).

ps The Lord Is My Light And Salvation is a great track. smile.gif

Google for "ForceASPI", it uses an older version of ASPI that's known to be more reliable.

EDIT: Or try Neros APSI layer.

in CDex the tracklenghts are ok, but i think it uses a it's own layer to access the drive not the installed ASPI...
besides i prefer EAC wink.gif

there are several great tunes on that album biggrin.gif listening to 'war beyong the stars' right now

the adaptec codec doesn't recognise my drive at all, it was the nero aspi that produced the error i'm talking about... see original post....
