Hello People,
Obviously this is my first post. Just seeking comments about the use of EAC and LAME 3.96.1 DLL. I'm using minimum 160kbps VBR, maximum 320kbps, VBR quality 3. Is this good, bad, acceptable? If I were to select preset standard from the drop down list, would that produce the same results as the CLI version --preset standard?

Thanks,
DilbyŠ

That might help.

welcome to the community. However, please take a look at the FAQ and use the search engine. All of your questions have been answered many times. If you have a specific question, feel free to post.

Anyway, the short answer to your question would be: no, your settings are not good. Stick with one of the --presets for maximum quality. I guess in your case this would be either -V2 (aka --preset standard) or -V3. -V2 is highly recommended, but if ~200kbps is too much for your taste you could try -V3

I've searched for quite some time now, found nothing that mentions EAC and the DLL version of LAME. I've read the FAQ and also the Wiki, maybe theres something that I've overlooked. Would it be too much to ask for someone to point me to the reading material? I know all about the best/recommended settings for the CLI version, but which settings in EAC provide the closest results to the presets for the DLL version. I like the DLL version because its integrated well, its fast, it encodes 'on the fly' and I dont have 'golden ears' I'm just curious as to what the settings are that will match aps, if not can someone answer what the minimum bitrate is? It seems that the maximum is 320, and the quality is 2. I'm using joint stereo. What else does the aps switch do that cant be configred in the EAC options?

Also, if I select preset standard from te dropdown list in EAC, EAC will error and tell me that it cant find the codec, whereas if I use a mimimum VBR setting from the dropdown list, all is fine.

Thanks,
DilbyŠ

Check the Wiki.
The exe is recommended over the dll version.

If you really want to stick with the dll, you can grab a modified dll version of lame at RareWares. Without an ini file it always encodes with -V2 (aka --preset standard).

I've read all that, theres nothing there about the DLL version. I've stated the reasons I want to use the DLL version. I know the CLI version is better..

Thanks,
