Ahh I had my 0404 for 5 months now and never had any real problems…. However after 2 months I started to get some problems… being the Computer geek and hardware monster that I am I figured out what it is and how to prevent the problem. The problem is that if my PC was on and I restart my computer would hang when windows would boot (winxp loading screen). If I left my PC off for 15 minutes and restarted it would work fine, cold boots also worked flawlessly. Moreover I have never had any problems with the card while in use, so I didn’t bother with exchanging it etc.

However now it wont boot whatsoever with the card in the PC and I am sick of the 0404 and want a new sound card. Music reproduction has to be flawless and I game every now and again Battlefield 2 and counter strike etc, but not much, and I only use stereo.

What cards do you guys recommend?

I was looking at the M-Audio cards but what’s the difference between the 5.1 and 7.1 apart from the obvious? Do these cards work with games… I read they do.
Any other companies out there….

I will return the 0404

UPDATE: mhh now it works again... odd odd... i tried my brothers audigy 2zs and it booted fine... as i said its just the card from warm boot or maybe heat!??

Maybe the guys at the E-MU forum can help you out?

The 0404 is a great card, I would first try to make it work again before throwing it away.

If it is in fact an overheat problem, you could put the card in a PCI slot that's far away from your video card (for example), if possible.

Did you solve the problem? I get it too! Please help if you can!

ASUS P48SX motherboard
Sapphire ATI Radeon graphics card

This problem has been reported on internet forums, but I have found no solution so far:
On installing the software, the device worked fine and i was able to listen to audio and record audio using cubase sx 1.02. The software was installed having formatted my drive and reinstalling windows xp and service pack 2, cubase and propellerhead reason and nothing else. On the next few boots, the computer would hang during the windows xp splash screen. Windows would occasionally load on cold boots only and audio can rarely be heard.

Either the device will appear to work fine, with the volume level faders appearing to work properly and audio playing back but just not audible, or this will occur for the first 3 seconds of a track being played (in windows media player) and then the track would freeze until moved on with the cursor, then play for another 3 seconds, and so on, or the device would work and i can use it as i please.

Each time i have tried loading a session into patchmix that i saved when the card was operational and i know should allow me to hear audio and record it, but this does not help. I have also tried upgrading the drivers and patchmix to v1.08 from 1.07 with no luck.

I have tried setting the bios to manage pci devices instead of the operating system, moving the device into a new slot (although device was originally in an unshared slot), to no avail. When i moved the card and reinstalled the software. it worked for a few boots, then the audio started to clip even with the output faders turned down, and then a couple of hours later when i returned to the pc nothing could be heard and windows could not communicate with the device! argh!!

This seems to be a common problem amongst users to i hope you can help!

Have u guys ensured that u have turned of or disabled the onboard sound on your motherboards? and also that u are up to date with the emu drivers? I have seen this problem before and yes overheating could be an issue! Make sure that the onboard sound is also turned off in control panel.
