Since I've started using the beta version audio cd playback does not work... I get a "Generic Reading Error"... in 0.8.3 that didn't happen. I'm using Windows Server 2003, does it have something to do with it???

HELP !!!

There have been a few posts about this issue in the bug reporting thread, but this seems to be the only open topic specifically devoted to it.

I too have this problem. I swear I seem to remember being able to play at least one CD with it, but I tried a stack of CDs today and none work (though all work correctly under fb2k 0.8.3). I am running Windows XP SP2, fb2k 0.9beta7. This is on a notebook computer; drive reports as "_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A". I doubt any of this information helps at all and I recall reading that no one can seem to figure out exactly what is causing this, but I thought I'd post anyway. sad.gif

Please report full message from console, and from beta7 (or newer) only. If the problem appears to be disc-specific, use "debug" button in "Play audio CD" dialog and post results.

Using fb2k 0.9beta7 on my notebook; Windows XP SP2, DVDR+/-W drive reports as "_NEC DVD+-RW ND-6500A". Drive settings set to their defaults; secure ripping disabled, limit drive speed disabled and offset correction set to 0 (though I have tried fiddling with these settings with no effect). Attempting to open track01.cda from CD directly briefly brings up the "processing files" dialog and then returns to the playlist, but no items are added; if items were in the playlist previously, the playlist is cleared. (Oddly enough, no error is displayed.) The following message appears in the console:
CODE
decodable range ending out of range

Attempting to use Components->Play audio CD->Add to playlist does eventually result in the items being added to the playlist, but after the button is pressed, the "Error reading info" dialog appears with the following text:
CODE
Unable to read info from files:

"cdda://008166AB,01" (0) - Unsupported format or corrupted file
"cdda://008166AB,02" (0) - Unsupported format or corrupted file

"cdda://008166AB,05" (0) - Unsupported format or corrupted file
"cdda://008166AB,06" (0) - Unsupported format or corrupted file

Console log is as follows:
CODE
decodable range ending out of range
Error reading info from file (Unsupported format or corrupted file):
file path: "cdda://008166AB,01" / index: 0
decodable range ending out of range

This occurs on all discs I have tried today (more than 15). This will therefore probably be of little use, but here is the debug info from the Play audio CD dialog for the disc used in the example above:
CODE
toc.firstTrack: 1
toc.lastTrack:  6
toc.tocLen:     1
entry track address ADR reserved
00    001   000000  016 000 000

02    003  090525  016 000 000

05    006   169282  016 000 000
06    170   323692  016 000 000

My apologies for not posting this console dump before; I didn't realise it was displaying that out of range error, since I'm familiar with the console coming up and harassing me like it did in 0.8.x. Shocking excuse, I know, but there you have it. smile.gif

This definitely seems to be related to drive. I have an LG DVDR+/-W drive in my desktop machine which works flawlessly with 0.9beta7. Note that all appears to be fine with my notebook using fb2k 0.8.3.

The same CD as above works fine in the LG drive and has an identical TOC dump.

Thanks for the detailed report, I think I've found the reason now. Try this dll (for beta7).

Perfect. Thanks! smile.gif

The CDs that I had problems with previously now work with beta7. Thanks!

thanks a lot! smile.gif ... thanx again for such a quick response!

This isn't entirely related (not a generic reading error), but it does concern audio CD playback errors:

On several discs I have here (CD-R), both fb2k 0.8.3 and 0.9beta8 will not play the cda files when I open them by selecting the cda file on the drive in the open dialog (e.g. e:\track01.cda), but will play the CD if I use Components->Play audio CD. Obviously, this isn't a real concern, since one can simply (and probably should) use Components->Play audio CD, but I am just curious as to why this fails on some discs. I was wondering whether perhaps the session wasn't closed or something, but I can't find a tool at present which will tell me that. Here is the console log (nothing is displayed on screen when I add or open the cda file; it just returns to the playlist):
CODE
cdrom_from_id : drive not found
error opening cdrom
