I'm currently using EAC 0.95 b2 and Lame 3.96.1 for encoding my mp3s and I was wondering if my current settings for tagging and compressing my mp3s is correct or if there is a better way of doing it.
Under EAC - Compression Options - External Compression tab:
Use External program for compression [Y]
Paramater Passing Scheme [User Defined Encoder]
Use File Extension [.mp3]
Additional command line options [--alt-preset standard --id3v2-only --pad-id3v2 --ta "%a" --tt "%t" --tl "%g" --ty "%y" --tn "%n" --tg "%m" %s %d]
Bit Rate [192 kBit/s]
Delete WAV after compression [Y]
Use CRC check [N]
Add ID3 tag [N]
Check for external programs return code [N]
Use Lame command line encoder/decoder for decoding mp3 files [Y]
And I have nothing checked under the ID3 tab.
Thanks in advance for the help because it would really give me some peace of mind.

Just 'preset standard' with 3.96.1 I think, without the 'alt'. Could be wrong thuogh.

Nope that part is right. --alt-preset standard = aps. The additional commands behind the aps part are telling lame to add an ID3 v2.3 tag with padding and telling it what info to use in the tag.
I have read that its not advisable to select 'Lame MP3 encoder' under the parameter passing scheme. That 'User Defined Encoder' is better and that using Lame to tag the files is also faster and better. Just wondering if this is true or not.

Both --preset and --alt-preset have bit identical output in 3.96.1 as they are both mapped to -V2. From what I can tell your settings are fine
