hi

when we encode audio, lets say 128k cbr mp3 file. does that mean 128 kilobits/s or 128 kilobytes/s?

as you know there are 8 bits per byte.

so what is an 128k mp3 file? is that Kb or KB? i.e. kilobits or kilobytes respectively.

e.g. 128Kbps or 128KBps ???

It's easy to check it yourself.

bitrate == filesize (bits) / playtime (seconds)

Let's see if that's true. I have a "128kbps" file. It's 3591088 bytes, with a playtime of 3:44.

filesize == 3591088 x 8 == 28728704
playtime == 224

(28728704 / 224) is approximately 128253bps, or 128.253kbps. That's close enough. smile.gif
