huh.gif i have an mp3 player for my workouts. I work forever putting songs in certain order, then i transfer them and they automatically go into alphabetical order. i hate this. i have tried renaming them using mp3 a and mp3 b, but no matter what the orginal title and artist remains in gray. I can't get rid of it. My mp3's continue to transfer in alphabetical order. help please.

Can you make playlists with your MP3-player?

Otherwise you'll have to change the tags, not just the filenames.
JunkieXL
You will need to tell us which mp3 player you are using and what program you are using to transfer files onto it for us to help you. Without those bits of info we would just be guessing at nothing.

thanks for getting back with me. i am using musicmatch jukebox and my mp3 player is a rca lyra RD 2010A. Musicmatch does allow me to to make playlists, but when i transfer them, it seems to still go in alphabetical order. i think i have tried to change the tags, but not sure i didi it correctly. so i hope that helps.

Why don't you just rename them "001 - title", "002 - another title", etc... ?
JunkieXL
Here's a link to the RCA website for this item. On it you can access the instruction book for your flash mp3 player.
http://www.rcaaudiovideo.com/Cultures/en-U...roductID=RD2010

It doesn't matter what order they are added you can access the mp3s by selecting from created playlists or by album or by artists. You just need to make sure you have your mp3s properly tagged so that the player can group them by their info.

Just google RCA Lyra 2010, like I did, and you'll be able to find out a ton of info on your player.

i tried naming them mp3 a, mp3 b, and so on. is that the same as labeling them 001, 002, and 003?

I know what you're talking about.

I am probably not in the exact same situation as you, but here's what I do just in case it does help:

I "keep" my music in flac and convert to mp3 only when I am transferring to my player, which I use in the car (no, not with my ER3's, but through the sound system smile.gif ) and while working out (where those earphones are great for blocking out the tv in the fitness center!).

When I create a "mix", I use EasyTAG to prepend a number to the titles AND filenames, just like a couple of others here have suggested to you. E.g.: "001 - The Call of the Zombie". I don't think my NEX iA does playlists, so this would be my only option and it seems to work like a charm.

'Hope this helps...

It never hurts to give that a try. so here is hoping. i do have another question, what is a flac. you said you keep your music in flac, i have never heard that before, what is it?
Shade[ST]
FLAC, free lossless audio codec, is an audio format that has absolutely no quality loss vs the original source file, but is much smaller. http://flac.sourceforge.net/ (It is still 4-8 times larger than an mp3 file..)

Ok, i gave it a try.  I right clicked the song, and renamed it 001-then the title.  After I click off of this, the orginal title, turns grey underneath the new title I have named.  For some reason, my mp3 recognized the gray name over the new one.  I am doing this right? sad.gif

Are you renaming the mp3 tag or the file name? Make them both the same and see if it still gives you trouble.

carver922
ok, i figured it out............i have to right click and rename my file, since that doesn't get rid of my gray name that comes up automatically. i now need to right click, go to properties, click on the summary tab, click on the area where the artist is, rename that, then click on the place where the title is and rename that too. that is how i get rid of the automatic title and artist.........and can rename it whatever i want.

As I said originally, I'm using EasyTAG (under Linux), so my experience is a tad different. But:

Do you think it would be easier to rename the files using Windows Explorer, then open them up with your tagging software and let it automagically redo the tags based on the filename?

There are multiple players out there that rename music files stored in the music library for you. i.e. Musicmatch, iTunes, foobar2k...

EAC can even rename files based on ID3 tags. That is, as long as you have them properly tagged for doing this.

It would be a waiste of time to manually change the file names of each audio file in my opinion.

Most of these tagger programs/players also will automatically re-order the file structure based on the tags and the path the user defines. As you say, it's much easier to edit the MP3 tags and have the program take care of the file management.
