Hi All,

I have just started ripping my music collection using EAC and Lame 3.97.
I am using the --alt -preset extreme -q 0.
The results are excellent.
I would like to find out if there is a way via a switch or otherwise to get more Bass.

Looking forward to hearing your comments.
Joe

Use an equalizer on playback (or perhaps use the foobar DSP chain with Diskwriter).

-V n (in 3.95.1), Presets, bitrates and lowpass of V value

Oops, i meant high-passes.

AFAIK the default highpass is 0

I think it is a bad idea to encode distorted signals (non-linear frequency response). It is better to apply this on playback

why would you want to do that, adding bass before encoding will make it tougher for encoder to encode, I'm just speculating

Applying bass on playback is much easier.

But if you insist on applying it before encoding, You can use front-ends such as foobar2000, dbpoweramp, winamp to name a few

Just slide 60-100 Hz slider higher than others, you will get your "bass" then

Winamp's eq is an utter crap, dreadful, especially for PCM waves (before I get another TOS8, to be precise, the version I'm using is 5.03a, the mp3's equalizer is OK, but the EQ starts to fall apart when it is playing everything else besides mp3....really weird)

-q 0 is not recommended. Just use the preset.

I've read somewhere that in 3.97 alpha 11 the q1 and q0 switches have been fixed. Can someone comment.

I think it's just the fact that it is not recommended to tamper with presets.

Therefore --preset extreme is recommended over --preset extreme -q 0

If you're using 3.97 drop the alt- from --alt-preset. Both will work, but --alt-preset just maps to --preset now. As we move away from 3.90.3 I think we also need to start dropping the alt- prefix to clarify things. Unless users feel it's cool to be alternative...

Edit: The above may seem anal, but I think it's an injustice to Gabriel to still refer to alternative presets post 3.90.3...

That's right, they have been. Quite some time ago. Gabriel states that they _may_ not increase quality though, but they _shouldn't_ decrease it.
