I have worked with many softwares in my life, but have found nothing sooooo ill-organised and complicated as Foobar2000!!! I agree, i am a little weak in the head, but the documentation on Foobar sucks big time.

I have not been able to update something even so basic as my foobar GUI. It amazing. I got the "foo_ui_columns.dll" file & copied the file into my foobar directory and BINGO... nothing happens when I open Foobar!!!! Went to preferences and racked my pee brain for over 10 minutes and still NOTHING.

Does there exist a step by step documentation as to how to go about it? If not, can anybody in this forum please take the time to reply me with details as to how I can atleast transform the ridiculous default foobar GUI into something worthwhile. I have given up doing it myself. Without any documentation and help, all I am left with is to uninstall foobar and go back to my winamp. Please HELP.

Place foo_ui_columns.dll in C:\Program Files\foobar2000 0.8.3\components
Restart foobar and goto 'Preferences / Display / and change the User interface module from 'Default User Interface' to 'Columns UI.'

Check the documentation links in this pinned thread. The manual and wiki will probably be of most use, and there's a titleformat_help.html in your foobar directory if you want quick titleformatting help.

Edit: also, the 0.9 beta builds automatically display a popup at startup on detection of a new gui, cause it's getting better all the ti-i-ime

Thanks, I feel kinda stupid now, but changing the settings in preferences helped me and I have got the Column UI running. The place I downloaded the columns ui file took no effort to mention the same thing you did. Thanks a million smile.gif

I have been to the link you gave me, but I only went to the appreance links and they were of no use. I'll check the wiki now.

Did you go to here.

It has bunch of configs (in fcs format) made by other people. Azrael, Navigator, Olight, and Soap are all pretty damn good. Download the ones you like and go to prefernce->column ui->other->import to import the configs.

You may want to try a different audio player that suits your needs.

If you don't need the fancy stuff like ReplayGain calculation, mass-tagger, disk writer and so on, you could give XMPlay a try. It's pretty simple to use, supports gapless playback (same method as fb2k) and also reads ReplayGain tags.

JimmyPage, I've been looking at foobar over the past couple of weeks and have been constantly frustrated by the UI. Though I'm slowly getting the hang of the strings the link you posted above has been a great help. The UI posted there have been a great inspiration and show me where I've been going wrong. Thanks. smile.gif

Just realised taht most of these scripts require other plugins and config isn't as easy as I thought. Patience required, I will prevail. huh.gif eventually.
