Full Version: a few replaygain & clipping questions

1) if playback replaygain mode is set to 'album' but a track only has 'track_gain' info, does f2K default to using the track_gain value?

2) When album_gain is higher than track_gain, the track can clip in 'album' mode. We get around this in 'preferences 'by setting playback to take peak values into account and further lower the level to avoid clipping as needed. Is this anti-clipping guard using the track_peak value or the album_peak value? Or does it depend on what mode one is using for playback?

3) can the anti-clipping guard still function when a track has been scanned with replaygain, but the playback replaygain mode is set to 'disabled'?

1) Yes, that's what the Replay Gain standard recommends, and foobar2000 does it that way.

2) I suspect track_peak will be used.

3) Look carefully. "Use peak info to scale down tracks that still clip after applying replaygain" I suspect it won't function when replaygain is disabled.

Depends on your playback mode to the best of my knowledge.
