Hi, my apologies if this is already posted on -- i couldn't find it.

i've ripped my music to FLAC, and i have a standalone DAC that takes spdif in and a sound card (my geforce2 chipset) that puts out spdif. my very basic question is:

how do i make my computer act like a "transport" (as i believe the device that reads the digital data from a cd and dumps it to the dac is called)?

i'm currently running foobar, using the "kernel streaming" output option, but was surprised to find that the windows volume control still changes the volume... doesn't sound like i'm getting what i want, does it?

thanks in advance for any help.

thanks,
luke

You will need a separate sound card.

Chaintec's AV-710 is likely to be the most affordable solution. Or if you're really into it, Creative's new X-Fi cards should support bit-perfect s/pdif passthrough.
