I looked into GoGo a long time ago but the quality wasn't as good as Lame (of course

)
I was just using EncSpot on some files I downloaded and saw "GoGo (after 3.0)" show up as the encoder, so I checked and Gogo has a new version dated 9/10/2002. (http://homepage1.nifty.com/herumi/gogo_e.html)
It says it is based on Lame 3.9x.
I searched this forum and found no other posts regarding it. Does anyone have information or experience to share?

As you say, this version is based on an undisclosed 3.9x(!!) lame. If you want binaries for this, exe and dll, you can download them from Mirror 1, below. Basically, because much of the code has been rewritten in assembler for speed, it sacrifices options and some quality.

They say there was a mistake of the version notation of lame and it is based on Lame 3.8x on
their Japanese page.

John33: Of course 3.9x is not the most current Lame, but it would be a quantum leap from when I looked into GoGo and it was based on 3.70 Lame (or earlier, I can't remember). However, if it is based on a version of Lame from within the last year I'd be curious what people think of it. I am just surprised there was no mention of the release Sept. 10 when I searched the forums today.
Harashin: I don't read Japanese, only English, but I don't see a mention of what version of Lame it is based on at all on the page you sited. " a mp3 encoder based on LAME " is all I see.
Anyways ... has anyone tried it?

Hmmm, according to the readme, it's still based on lame 3.88.

The project's documentation discrepancies and inaccuracies, while noteworthy, are not my concern.

The focus of my post is whether anyone has used it and if so, what their impressions of it are.
Can anyone comment of the sound quality and features of the new Gogo?

i would rate it as a much better alternative to xing when all you need is speed!
I use it sometimes.
Not bad at all, but quality is lower than Lame.
There is another GoGo compilation (3.10) avaliable at mitiok's site.

Note that encspot reports suspiciously many files as gogo that it didn't before.
