I'm thinking to purchase either a used Rotel RA972 or Audiolab 8000S integrated amplifier, each of which is priced at roughly US$350. I'd appreciate comments regarding the build quality, expected reliability, and relative value of these two brands/models.

Thank you.

This kind of comparison is very subjective, usually no one will bought both and AB test in the same configuration.

But for this price level you can't expect much from it, if you're going for music, maybe a DIY kit of tube amplifier convince you more.

Some years ago I sold a Rotel integrated I liked very much (840BX) and replaced it with an Audiolab 8000S which I like better. They are both very good amps, but if you can buy the Audiolab for $350 I would without hesitation. BTW, the Audiolab retailed for $1000 in mid-90s dollars so the comment that you won't get much for $350 doesn't really apply.
