I know that the Megaworks are 5.1 and are more expensive, but which are better in your opinion, and which have the better sound quality...?

Hope you can help...

Thanks!

I'd take a serious look at the logitech Z-5300s, they're less than $200 for 5.1s and sound better than the megaworks. No better deal to be had.
TS2Master
Thanks for the heads up, but do you know how they compare to the AEGO's?

i personally disagree here tongue.gif
logitech has a bass that's way too heavy, and i can't really say the satellites of the (almost 3.5y/o megaworks 550d) are in any way inferior to the z5300.. in fact, considering the z5300 is newer, it should be better.. but i've yet to hear any recording that sounds better on the 5300 than it does on my good old 550d smile.gif

then there's the price.. here (in holland) the 5300 costs basically the same the 550d does, so unless you live somewhere where the difference is actually >50$, i'd still consider the 550d very good value for your money.. as for the aero, they don't have it anywhere here, so i really can't say one way or the other smile.gif
i just know that , with quite a few instruments, when i'm in another room i have trouble hearing the sound is coming from something other than the instrument itself smile.gif
it's well worth your money

But that makes them optimized for listening to rap music! tongue.gif

But seriously, my Z-2300 sub has incredibly deep bass, and there's always the knob that lets you turn the bass down if you think it's too much.

agreeded the z-5300's bass is superb. I bought a set just for my TV so that i connect my dvd/xbox/cable tv to it, and at about $250 its a steal.

For my PC now i got a Z-2300 set, same deep bass that's adjustable, but w/out 3 sat & the decoder module.

Have you tried using the headphone jack that is located on the remote of the z-2300s? I'm wondering whether or not its amp is capable of powering some of the more high end cans or not.

I would really like to hear some opinions of the AEGO 2, but more discussion of the Logi's vs. the Megaworks is greatly appreciated! biggrin.gif

Oh, and cost isnot really a problem. Up to £200 (~$500 i think)

Thanks! It sound by far the best! I just wonder if they do any other speakers for something around the £200 mark. If not I'll get the AEGO 2's.

I had a pair of Megworks 5.1 speakers. They were 510D series. Sounded great. About 1 week after the 1 yr warranty was up they started malfunctioning. I'd get this really awful distortion, veyr high pitched. Seems the amplifying unit crapped out. I still use the satellite speakers with a Sony receiver with analogue inputs. Could just be unlucky, but it's worth checking into before buying megaworks speakers. I paid $250 for them and they died in a year. I'd like to hope they usually last longer, otherwise I'll be buying a different brand.

I think from what I've heard on here, and the impression that I have recieved, that the Acoustic Energy's seem much better quality, and are actually going to cost me a fair chunk of cash less than the Logitechs or the Megaworks.

What do you guys think?

Only with my PX200s, so I really have no idea.

Bah...there wasn't any spec about its amp from there site either dry.gif

I'm guessing it's pretty decent though.

Oh and I'm currently using the Boston Acoustic speakers that came with my Gateway I bought back in '99. 2 sattelite speakers and a sub. 2.1 surround capable. Decent sound, durable, and very reliable. I'd recommend checking them out.

Logitech optimized for rap because of bass? Well, there are different genres not just rap as far as i know. Bass is not the only thing you hear in music. EVEN if the bass of the Z5300s is better (although boomy bass is not considered better, at least not by everyone), there are still the mid and high frequencies. I had the chance of hearing Creative models and Logitech models in a store. Creative sounded better. I also owned a pair of Creative Inspire T3000 and they are probably best value for money. Now i own a set of MW's 550D and they sound terrific.
Logitech may be best at mice and one of the best by keyboards but when sound is concerned i think Creative have more experience. Besides, you can't be BEST at every product you make.

I agree. I would choose Creative over Logitech anyday.

Oh, dear me, I forgot the beacon of perfection. I shall punish myself. laugh.gif
Well, CD quality @ 64Kbps is truly laughable. I thought MS was a serious company. Do they want to invade the comedy scene as well. Monopolism rule, you know. biggrin.gif
Actually their hardware ain't bad. They have some pretty nice keyboards and mice.
Oh, and joysticks. Not the best but good enough to comepte in the high-end sector.
If only MS made software with the same devotion as they make hardware.
TS2Master
OK. Enough about Microsoft and monopolies.

I would like someone's view on the AEGO 2's! Thanks!
sony666
I would just like to add that the bass of the Logitech Z series is extreme, even at the lowest setting.
I had a 2.1 system but just could't stand it. Gave it to my mother, who uses it to piss off our neighbors when they are yelling at each other again in the evening.

Wasnt planning to reply this thread until seeing so many unrelevant posts blink.gif .

I'm a proud owner of Aego2 system. I believe that it has the best sound quality £99 can buy for you. I'm not saying that Megaworks isn't good, but you won't need the extra surround sats unless you're into lots of gaming or movies, not to mention that the sound quality is inferior than Aego2.

Cheers

I have the Z-680 set, and yes, the bass is extreme. When on the lowest setting it's usually OK, but in some music there's clearly too much bass (and that's on the lowest setting tongue.gif).
They're perfect as a poor mans home cinema (what I use them for) but if music is your top priority, I'd say go for the AEGO 2.
Myself I'm getting a pair of Sennheisers, HD-555 to be precise.
