Hi --
Can anyone help me rip my copy of Shikira's Fijacion Oral with EAC?
I know its some dort of protected disk: XP and EAC doen't even see it as loaded.
I've tried downloading CloneXXL to look at it but it just gives me some message in German when it starts up and exits saying it needs to be restarted...

don't use EAC, use dbpoweramp. also consider that it depends on the CD-Reader you use.

It's not a dualdisc is it?
If it IS, i'm not sure it's readable in a pc drive..
The DualDisc I tried just choked my drive up. tried every app I know to copy it..
I ended up ripping the 24bit 48 Khz HI rez PCM audio off the DVD side instead.

I managed to rip a protected disc with a DOS tool once called da2wav The disc was dual mode, and when inserted in XP it loaded some player that allowed me to play the music. When I tried to extract the audio, it extracted rubbish. The hold shift when insert the CD method didnt work. Generally, if the CD can be played, it can be ripped somehow. If you know how dual mode CDs work, you can use a felt tipped pen to work around the copy protection. I shouldnt say too much more, might violate TOS.

A quick search reveals that Shakira is on the same label as the CD that I ripped, so theres a good chance that what I mentioned will work.

I wasn't aware the marker method worked on DualDisc titles. I've only heard of it working successfully on XCP titles.

Not DualDisc, dual mode. Isnt that what Sony use?

Sony/BMG Music Entertainment is one of the groups pushing DualDisc (ironically Sony Computer Entertainment and Sony Electronics have both issued compatibility warnings for DualDisc titles - it's not the first time they have clashed, Sony Music Entertainment sued Sony Electronics in 2001). I'm not sure if this particular title is DualDisc or not.

Seems that it is DualDisc, and my way of doing things probably wont work with this type of disc. I just knew that they were both by Sony, so thought there mightve been some chance that it would work.

I've never used dmC. Does it work better on copy-protected CDs? Is it because of accuraterip support or something else?
Not because of AccurateRip, but rather a 'Standard CD Player Emulation' mode, this reads the real 1st session audio data by using special calls. So if you can rip that cd is dependant 50% on the program and 50% on the cd drive (it being able to read outside the false 2nd session lead in and out).

There are several versions of that album.
One of them, is indeed, a DualDisc (CD on one side and DVD on the other)
It is, AFAIK, copy protected, so it must be the "dual" thing that is causing you trouble.
Too bad, since it is a very good album.
I have dual discs that will not rip, not because of any copy protection, but rather the CD drive will not detect the CD (it is too thick).

There's two ways you can get the job done.
1) Use an external CD recorder. I use a Denon CDR-W1500 which works really well. It makes perfect digital copies!
2) Copy or rip the disk in the Linux OS environment as opposed to Windows. Use RAW Mode if you can.

I want to get a hold of one of these disks. There has to be a way to copy them!

I generally make a copy of these CDs with CloneCD, then rip the copy as that will be a valid redbook CD.

Oh, there is! It is LUCK.
I have that CD. I just kept reloading it, opening and closing the CD tray, until it got detected. That way I could rip it.

The problem is it not a software one, but a hardware issue. The CDs are too thick. They get undetected my the drive. Sometimes it doesn't matter what program you use.
It is actually not a copy protection, but it is far more effective (and it doesn't really steal things from you, like usual protection. I mean, the CD can't rip because it has too many goodies!)

It should also be mentioned, since the original post asked about ripping with EAC: that even if you were able to read the disc, this method will not utilize EAC's error detection features. Error detection must be done as the data is being read directly from the CD.
