This is my fist shot at a stereo im putting together a system for my room, but will use when i move it out. I dont know if everything will work out fine with this config but I plan on starting off with:

Reciever: http://www.yamaha.ca/av/Receivers/HTR5860B.jsp

speakers (only 2 to start but will get 2 more and a center): http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_d...rId=NRE&sCatId=

sub: http://www.jbl.com/home/products/product_d...rId=NRE&sCatId=

I do not need a changer for CD right now as i usually just run all my music off either my MP3 player or computer. Just wondering if this set up will work out fine.

Your mp3's are 2 channel, and depending upon your sound card / or av reciever the other 4 speakers might not even be driven...and even if they are driven it is debatable if you will get a better sound or experience as normal cds are mastered for stereo and not 5.1 channels. For games and any 5.1 audio you can get, no problems.

Yes, you say you want a stereo, but your receiver has 8 channels!

I'd suggest Paradigm Mini Monitor (or any of the monitor series), for the sides and rear. Truely transcendant, for a low price. Hear how it's supposed to be (sort of ;-))

I have owned those. They are a good choice for the price.
