i saw the ones listed on there site but surly there are more, what im after is an easy to use tool that will turn anime series dvd's into multi languge mkv files with minimum effort and without installing a bunch of crap (unless they really need the matroska splitters, i dont usually as a vlc user).codec wise i think i would like to use xvid for the video and maybe aac for the audio (i seem to remember you can encode 5.1 lossy with aac although the first dvd i want to do is stereo only).

The Gordian Knot ( look at http://www.doom9.org ) is like what you want, and has MKV output. In any case, as VirtualdubMod is being used for MKV file creation and its fairly outdated, i recommend to remux the final files one time with mmg.exe/mkvmerge.exe.

We once had plans to launch such a tool our selves with DVDtoMKV, but its author is MIA since several months now it seems sad.gif ....

i could not see Gordian Knot listed there but found it by using google. have you considerd asking the Autogk team to support mkv or give you the source files so you can add it your self? i have used it in the past to make some xvids and its idiot proof, such an application with mkv support would be a real bonus for new users imo.

AutoGK is made for standalones, and there are no standalones supporting MKV (yet). Thats why its author would not consider to add MKV output to AutoGK.

On another thing, there is no point in using MKV if you are not interested in any of its advanced features compared to AVI, like
- adding various audio tracks
- adding soft subtitles
- using modern compression formats, like AVC for video and Vorbis/AAC for audio

As a result of that, a MKV creation tool will always require a bit more user interaction than AutoGK does, because you have a lot more options.
