Hi Dug ! biggrin.gif

I'm sorry I am always the harbinger of bad news because I truly love lyricsDB and all the work you've put into it and the backend webserver/database.

I got this error for the first time today, and I see that it's happened to a guy already a few posts ago. Same exact error. I put the dump failure.txt in a code box below.

Anyway, looking forward to the new version.

I replied via email. Problem hasn't happened again on several other succesful lyrics updates.

It's happened about 4 times. Anyway, I'm on the alpha version now, I'll let you know if there are issues.

First beta of new version (0.0.5) of foo_lyricsdb released. There is major changes in this version, relating to the request/answer network protocol. From now on foo_lyricsdb supports lyrics exchange protocol. There's new server-side part: LEP-server, so server's url changed (new plugin already configured to connect to LEP-server).
Old versions supported though, but won't be updated, and server-side part will not be updated for them too. To use new version you will need msvcrp70.dll. You pobably have it already, otherwise get there.

changelog for 0.0.5w beta 1:
- major protocol change, foo_lyricsdb is fully xml-based, and represents a LEP-client, check: lep.html
- added possobility of reporting info about new versions, bugs warnings, etc.
- there's no size warning at all anymore
- added "apply to all" feature (in lyrics preview window)
- added "don't show this warning ever" option fo all warnings
- there's "limit lyrics versions by" option instead of "forbid multiselect dialog box"
- configuration variables changed
- little memory cleanups.

Due the previous post, lyricsdb is now open as never ever before.
It is now open for lyrics exchange with other servers, open for creating other plugins.

foo_lyricsdb plugin could be used for any LEP-implementing database.

Thank you for this plugin. It's very easy to use and powerful. smile.gif

However when getting lyrics from the server for musics that have multiple lyrics version uploaded is there any way I can check the whole lyric before applying it to the file?
If I click the get button in the multilyric window it is automatically applied to the file and I want to check it before applying to choose the best version for my needs.

Is this possible with the current beta or is it a known limitation?

It is known limitation... Have no idea how to solve it nicely... May be to add the "preview" button, showing the preview window with "ok" and "cancel" on it? Hm, i think it could be possible, thanks for the idea.
p.s. I wanted to make adjustable preview size (in lines) in that nasty multiselect box, but there's windows limit of 255 pixels, so it could be 2 or 4 lines, and can't be 50, for example, so I just decided to forget about it :)
beto
I think the preview button opening in a different window would do it.
In the original multilyric window you could show just the name of the song and the user name for each version available in the database. Users could use the preview button to check which versions best suit their needs and the ok button to apply the lyrics to the file.

Thank you for considering this change. smile.gif

I just have done like that (in second beta)? And user added the song should be displayed at the bottom of each minipreview item. May be it's a good idea to add exact title there, but it could be too long stings there...

Actually I meant the web interface. Sorry for not being very clear on my original post.
Especially the manage lyrics menu with its freeze, remove and complain options. I don't know if they are working but I'm curious regarding the following:

1. What does the freeze option do? How does it work?
2. Who can remove lyrics?
3. How does the complain option works?

Thanks again for the great plugin. beer.gif
dug
1. When you "freeze" lyrics - it won't be delivered to users, but won't be erased from the database.
2. Don't remmember, i think users with higher levels
3. It sets "complaint" mark to the lyrics. Stuff can check complained lyrics and if there is some problems with that lyrics - fix it. I'll add "short note" field to "complan", 'cause it's often hard to understand why lyrics was complained...
you can check guessing.html and users.html

I definitely second that.

And, why did you remove the "All" option from the "Period" field in the stats.cgi page? Too resource consuming, perhaps?

Thanks for your work.

Yep, and I actually need only one-two days stats usually, and don't think it'll be a problem. There's just one week stats in the database, it must speed up lyrics search by the way.

Hi dug,

This is a cool little plugin. Thanks for creating it!

I have one question for you. Do you plan to add in the ability to save lyrics to a file, instead of saving them to a tag? I don't really care to save things like lyrics (or album art) as tags, but would like to have them in a file.

Just wondering. Thanks again.

Lord. I think I'll give up once... have no idea why people keep asking stuff like that, but they keep. Added it to my todo list. Just curious, why do you need it? Why do you need tons of messy tiny files, instead of just the same mp3s, 1k bigger? I don't like mp3s with a dozen of strange tags (like album art, some brain-damaged player own tags, comments, publisher... etc.) but lyrics is part of the song, and it's just a text?
And I think you won't be able to work with that lyrics from the plugin (import lyrics from files, for example...), it's too fuzzy stuff... What exactly do you want this plugin to perform?

I'm sorry if my question upset you. Also, it wasn't a request for the feature, I only asked if it was something that you might do. If you had said that you didn't want to add that option, then I would have no problem with your answer.

I don't allow foobar to change my files at all. I have it set to block tag updates. I know that in the foobar database, it might show the lyrics as a tag, but if I delete my database then the lyrics would be lost. By having them in a file, I will still have them if the database is removed.

Again, I am sorry if my question upset you....I did not intend it to.

That's pretty clean opinion :). I am not really upset, just can't understand why you (and other people) asking about that. It's not really so hard to add that feature. If you don't want to mass-import-through-database-and-reformat-on-the-fly-with-scrolling-preview for example, it won't be too difficult to implement (but you still must inform me what exactly you want). And sure there's something I can do, but I don't promice to make it too fast, runnig out of time...

I was hoping to be able to display the file in the foo_uie_lyrics window or perhaps foo_lyricshow. That would require the file to be saved with a .lrc extension. From what I see, foo_uie_lyrics only accepts .lrc or .lrc8, but foo_lyricshow allows one to set the file type.

You make a good point about mass import. It would be better to be able to pull lyrics in for sets of files.

It probably isn't worth the trouble to add the save to file feature if it cannot do mass import/saves. Thanks for listening though smile.gif

Actually that is not entirely correct. lyricshow and uie_lyrics can read both files and the embedded lyric tag (though I was never able to make uie_lyrics read .lrc files properly). I use both plugins for reading the lyric tag.
The lyric tag is a much cleaner solution IMO and I believe that not changing tags in the files is a paradigm IMO, of course. I'm sure you have your reasons... wink.gif

What I don't understand is you comment on the foobar DB. If you have the lyrics embedded in the files you don't need the foobar DB to remeber them at all. Even if you loose the foobar DB it wouldn't be a problem I think...

I did know that the plugins could read both tags and files, I was only speaking about the files though.

The reason why I do not want to tag is because of the foo_playcount plugin. Foo_playcount has a "DB Only Mask" option, which keeps the plugin from writing PLAY_COUNTER, LAST_PLAYED, etc. It will write these tags if another type of tag is changed, added or deleted in foobar. This means that when foo_lyricsdb writes the lyric tag, foo_playcount will now write its tags, which had previously been stored only in the database.

I do not want to save the foo_playcount tags in my files, but I do want to see that info in fb2k (it's useful for hotness). The only way for me to keep these tags from being written to the files is to activate the "Block tag update operations" option in the Database. This will mean that if the database is lost for some reason, then the lyrics would be too.

That's why I would prefer having them in file format, as opposed to tags.

I have tested this out, so I know that is how it works.

As I said to dug earlier, if he doesn't want to add the option to save to files or tags, I would not have a problem.

I understand. So why don't you use the sqlite version of foo_playcount? Instead of writing this info in the files tags it writes to a sqlite database.
I've been using it for some time now and it works flawlessly. Setting up the db is easy and straightforward. The solution is also lightweight.

I thought about that as an alternative. When I did some searching for it yesterday, I could not find an active link. The link through the thread you give is also dead. I found kode54's current website, and the plugin isn't listed.

I wonder if he stopped developing it, as the foo_playcount plugin has changed so much with kl33per taking over development. Another problem is that the tagz are different. I don't think I want to take the time to redo everything.

I am going to have to rethink what I want to do. Thanks for the help. And sorry if this thread got a little sidetracked....I didn't mean for it to happen.

Hi dug, I have a question:

Is there any way to query the database to retrieve all lyrics uploaded by a particular user? I want to check if the ones I uploaded are ok.

Also, I was testing the manage lyrics option and tried to delete one version of a lyric that has 4 versions uploaded to the database (I checked and the one that I was trying to delete is already in the database), however instead of deleting it the system just freezes the lyric.
Maybe it is something related to my user permissions, but since I'm not sure I decided to report anyway...

I just want to say Dug that i LOVE your plugin... but you do you think you will ever be supporting any sort of timestamped lyrics anytime? beacuse i've timestamp'd TONS of albums and would love to be uploading them.

I really just don't like the idea of timestamped lyrics, may be it could be possible to save timestamps and optionally kill them on the fly for some users, and leave for others... but later...

I wanted to complain....
You can now! Now complains have short descriotion, where you can say what you don't like about that lyrics, thax for reminding about that, and thanx for collaboration too.
p.s. i killed almost all complaits (i think 99% of them were just test) part of complaints i've fixed... so since now it should be really comfortable feature to maintain lyrics (stuff for the staff).

Is there any way to query the database to retrieve all lyrics uploaded by a particular user? I want to check if the ones I uploaded are ok.

not yet. i'll add "my lyrics" link to the user interface, this feature already been requesting, and i remmeber by who ;)

Also, I was testing the manage lyrics option and tried to delete one version of a lyric that has 4 versions uploaded to the database (I checked and the one that I was trying to delete is already in the database), however instead of deleting it the system just freezes the lyric.
Maybe it is something related to my user permissions...

yep, thats question of permissions. low-level users only can freaze lyrics. actually it is almost equal to the deletion: frozen lyrics can't be retrieved by the plugin and... i think... by the anonymous web-interface :)

ok. thanks a bunch for the information and for putting this database up.
I must say that I've been searching forever for a clean and easy solution to manage lyrics in my audio library and your lyricsDB is by far the best solution available.

My hat is off to you sir. biggrin.gif

Small bug in the webface, if I set the session expire time to 0 and click save the checkbox for 'Hide letters on top of page' will be checked even if I unchecked it.

Hi dug. Does you database support the album artist tag?

In simple terms this tag is used to denote the artist of a tribute album that has songs recorded by several other artists.

It would be interesting for the plugin to have an option to look for this tag before uploading content to the db. If this tag is found it should upload/download the lyrics related to the string in the album artist tag and not in the artist tag.

I hope my explanation is clear for you.... biggrin.gif Do you think that this is possible?

forgotten to inform you. I've added "my lyrics" to the web-interface, so you can check lyrics, you have exported to the database.
