Full Version: balloon tooltip doesn't appear
i have the balloon tooltip enabled to appear on song change, but it doesn't ever come. what could be the problem? I'm usin xp corp. w/sp2. any suggestions would be appreciated. thanks
Balloon tooltips only work when the systray icon is visible, so make sure that it is.
Try foo_osd, I'm using it and right away I disable the tooltip 
Another hint: Maybe you switched balloon tooltips of via TweakUI or other system optimizing tools. At least that was my problem in the past...
I have been using Foobar for two years and all of a sudden my balloon tips don't work anymore either. Actually, they do work but they don't show because other windows cover them. If I minimize all applications/windows, I see the balloons sometimes. If the balloons aren't appearing at all, I can maximize then minimize foobar and the balloons will show again (though they are still UNDER all other windows). I am using Foobar 0.8.3 (the latest)
The only things that I can think of that have changed are:
1) It's a work computer and they pushed a new WindowsXP image to our machines - maybe it set something in the OS so that balloon tips aren't "on top"?
2) I had to re-install Miranda http://www.miranda-im.org/ which also sits in the tray and has popup ballon thingies. Maybe that conflicts somehow? Hmmm...I don't think that's it - I can close down Miranda and it still happens the same way. (balloons are hidden).
Anyone have any ideas? I didn't realize how much I liked the balloons.

Well, thanks to FrzzMan, I installed foo_osd and got that working so if I can't get the balloon tips working, I'll just stick to foo_osd. I would still like to get the balloons working though.

Here's the only suggestion I have for you. Right click on your taskbar, properties, uncheck "keep the taskbar on top of other windows". Hit apply, wait for a balloon, and if that fixes it, then go back and check it again. You may have to do it every now and then, but it's fixed problems I've had with other programs.

Well, oddly enough, it seems to be working again. I need to see if it survives a reboot, but for now it's working. Now I have ot decide which I prefer - OSD or balloons.

Well, the balloons work again - survived reboot. Not sure why it didn't work for a while.
