I recently finished building my new computer and had help from ha.org with setting up my EAC LAME compression options (thanks!) now here comes the novice EAC drive questions:

My new computer seems to rip much slower than my older laptop, is there something i'm not setting right? in regards to the drives:

My new computer has a Plextor 716SA (Serial ATA) and i have it set to all the recommended drive settings from the tutorial

specifically:
Accurate stream - Checked
Cache - Checked
C2 - Unchecked

My old laptop has a NEC - DVD+RW ND-5100A and is also set to the tutorial etc.

Accurate stream - Checked
Cache (did not detect) - Unchecked
C2 - Unchecked
Drive sample offset +48 (taken from here)

The two questions i have:

1. How would i go about detecting drive offset for the new drive?

2. the new computer is ripping at about 2x on average using the same disc on the laptop its 7x. shouldnt the plextor drive be ripping faster if not as fast

is it the cache thats killing it? i haven't touched plextool professional yet, is there some tweaking that needs to be done?

Thank you in advance as always! Sorry if the first question gives you a headache!

Check EAC.txt from EAC's Documentation folder for CDs that can be used for detecting drive's offset, installing AccurateRip won't hurt either. Then use "Detect read sample offset correction" from Offset/Speed tab of Drive Options.

Yes, cache and unchecked C2.

Touch it.

AccurateRip is highly recommended; but if you want a quick piece of info, all recent Plextor drives should be set up with +30 read sample offset correction.

As for the cache, it was covered extensively in Plextor, EAC and cache, great news for Premium/PX-712 users.

haha, is there anything i should specifically be using in plextools?

Well I don't have and never had a Plextor drive so I don't know about tweaking, but I know that Plextools handle their drives very well - you get about as secure extraction as with EAC but with much faster speeds.

The read offset of the 716A is +30 and the write is -30. There are several discussions on here and at digital inn about this drive, since the previous versions of EAC did not support it. The 0.95b3 version does though. Here's some linkage. http://www.digital-inn.de/forumdisplay.php?f=14

You could also use the search option here at HA and find a ton of info on this drive or about offset databases. It's discussed alot...

The read offset and the write offset of the 716x are both -30. +30 is the read offset correction value.
