Full Version: Random playback bug

This is a random problem, so I'm not quite sure how to approach it.

Sometimes, when a song has finished playing and there is nothing queued after it, the progress indicator stays at the end (far right) of the seekbar, and foobar stays in play mode, and I have to manually hit the stop button to release it.

This also happens sporadically when I use the "Stop after current" opinion in the Playback menu.

Any idea why this is happening, or how to correct it?

WinXP-SP2
P4 3.2GHz
1G RAM
E-MU 0404
foobar2000, v 0.8.3

Thanks!

No, I haven't...
Mostly because it's a random problem - it could be many days before it happens again.

But, I'll give a shot.

Any other suggestions?

Unfortunately not at the moment. Randomly appearing non reproducable problems are usually hard to trace. Could be anything really. Either fb2k itself or some 3rd party component that doesn't quite behave.

OK... I'm trying 0.9b7 now (got about an hour of listening logged).

I guess we'll see what happens...

Thanks, pcmixer

What output method were you using in 0.8.3 ? waveOut or DirectSound or something else ?
If it's with waveOut output, it could be something similar to recently documented bug in x-fi drivers.

No, I use Kernel Streaming. Could the problem be with that?

Is the one-time reminder when using KS first time not clear enough ?
QUOTE
Kernel streaming output is EXPERIMENTAL, use it at your own risk; using it may lead to system instability on certain configurations. If you encounter any problems while using kernel streaming output, please switch back to directsound output.

And yes, it's most likely KS problem (reported latency never reaches zero).

Yes, the one-time reminder is perfectly clear...

I was well aware of the experimental nature of KS, but I'd been using it for about 7 months without any problem before this bug started showing up... that's why I didn't suspect it as the source of the problem.

But, I'll shut it off, and see if that helps.

I'll let you know.

Thanks!

Just a follow-up...

The problem only occurs with Kernel Streaming (as zZzZzZz suspected), and it only occurs when a song is paused, then unpaused.

After that, when the last song in the playlist is reached (or the "stop after current" option is selected), the progress indicator will freeze at the end of the track, and foobar stays in play mode.

So, it's the combination of Kernel Streaming with the pause function that causes the hitch (for me).

That's it; just wanted to wrap it up.
