I was in iTunes tagging up my collection and I selected all my songs and made them so they were cd 1 of 1 on all the tracks BUT I wasn't paying enough attention and changed the TRACK NUMBER of every track to 1 of 1 sad.gif I now have 60 or so albums to change the order of the songs back and I really don't want to do it by hand. What do i do sad.gif

If you have the track numbers in the file name, try using foobar or The Godfather to fix your files. Any good tagger program worth it's salt should have the ability to rename files based on their tags, and vice versa (tag files based on file name).

Nope, thats the thing, the File Names are like: Artist - Track. sad.gif This really sucks.

Edit: Let me add that my iPod has everything correct still.. I'm wondering if there is a way to pull those songs off my iPod and have the correct tags again..

i'm not entirely sure what the programs are called, but there are programs on the net that will allow you to do that.

Try Foobar2000 and the FreeDB Masstagger ...

ephpod should allow you to take the files back off the ipod somewhere else and then re-import them into iTunes. There are a few other progs that may allow that as well. Im not sure if you can use itunes do do that though, i never use it, i use alternatives with my ipod.

Speaking of tracknumbers... I have several double albums that I want to merge into a single virtual album. So instead of having "The Wall - CD1" and tracks 1,2,3,4... and "The Wall - CD2" and tracks 1,2,3,4 I want to renumber the tracks on CD2 to follow on the tracks from CD1.

Any tools that can automate this? If it renamed track filenames too, that would be great. My track filenames are in the 01-Songname format.

Retrieve the songs from your iPod (this can be done using 3rd party tools, a Google should find an appropriate one). Once you have them on the PC, drop them into foobar2000. Add the files originally on your hard drive under them and make sure the tracks are in the same order (sort them if necessary). Once you've done this, select all the tracks then select "Copy tags" under "Masstagger" to replace the original tags with those of the iPod files. Note that if the order of the tracks is not the same, masstagger will copy different tags to different files and you'll be left with a real mess. You can confirm the files are in the same order when the dialog box (below) pops up, which will show you which tags are being copied to which files.

Edit: Corrected mistake (the iPod songs should be added to the playlist before the originals, not after).
