Hi,

For those still having troube displaying Asian characters in
the UI or the playlist, here is a possible soltion:

System: XP professional (Traditional Chinese)
Version: foobar 2000 v0.8.3 special edtion (full install)
MP3s: tag encoded in big5

Many people suggested changing to fonts that support unicode,
play with the ID3v2 setting, double-width character setting,
and the override codepage.
None of these, in whatever combination, worked for me.
Actually, I still have trouble identifying all these terms. tongue.gif

Anyway, it just happens that I had
another version of 0.8.3 previously installed
without the ID3v2 module, which I heard it is troublesome.
This install has no problems, which gave me the idea...

Reversing all the setting changes that I have tried..
I simply renamed the foo_id3v2.dll in the componet directory,
or you can remove it if you want.

And it works!!!

That's cool =)
I think you'd need to override codepage if you were running the English version of Win XP though.

You're right.

I think it is because my XP default codepage is already defined as:
non-Unicode program would be using Chinese(Taiwan).
And yours is in English.

I guess you can see this as your default codepage setting,
when Unicode characters are not found !!!

I was trying to capture my foobar screen
that shows the comparison of the "before" and "after" of the tweak.

But, something weird happened:
after I renamed back my foo_id3v2.dll,
and reload foobar2000 with ID3v2 support now,
the issue didn't come back, surprisingly!!!

By the way, the setting option of ID3v2 came back in the preference.

Everything seems ok now even with the ID3v2 module.
This is weird!!
Maybe the original problem has to do with
something in the inital installation, I guess.
