1.) Slow, CPU-hungry encoding and decoding.
2.) No hardware support.
3.) Closed (proprietary) format.
4.) The most common encoders only offered two bitrates, 80kbps and 96kbps, which both sounded like poo-poo IMO.
WMA, from what I read, uses a modified VQF type of encoding scheme (and also sounds bad to boot). I have to wonder if vector-quantitization is even a viable encoding method compared to regular transform encoders like mp3 or Ogg, since both implementations (wma's and VQF's) sucked.
