Hi all. I'm trying to find a cheap CD recorder that will record direct from a line input. An HHB BurnIt http://www.dv247.com/invt/3558&source=froogle would be ideal, but alas it is over £300. Although not professional equipment, Sony have this RCD-W100 thingy, which seems to be going generally for aroun £190, a very resonable price it would seem. It has the abilty to do CD-CD too which would be a bonus, but I can't seem to find anywhere that tells me if I does what I really need it to do.. Which is to record live from the input. http://www.empiredirect.co.uk/content/prod...de=SON-RCDW100B Indeed I can't even find out if there is an input!
Any help on this would be appreciated, if anyone knows about this machine, or any other machine that might fit the bill.
Many thanks.

Your first line says "record direct from a line input" Transfering vinyl to CD is often done this way, so there must be a fair number of products that allow it; phono preamps output a line level signal. In fact, my impressin is that many of the mid level component manufacturers produce such recorders.

I've had no interest in this myself so I haven't paid attention to the manufacturer and model when I read these discussions, but perhaps with that in mind you might have better luck with an online search.

Hmm thanks for the info. You're right, it seems like such a normal procedure that it *should* in theory be able to do it.. What I am in fact wanting to do will be to record a line from a mixer, which has various microphones going into..

I just looked at the Sony ad. It has A to D and D to A converters. A to D have one function, converting analogue signals into digital. Since there is no mention of an included preamp, line level signals are the only ratinal option for 'what does one do with the ADC?'

The ad is very sparse on details, both of functions and specifications -- how good is the A to D? what is the noise level?. Have you tried doing a search for that product to see if anythng more turns up on other sites? The web page does have a phone number with the claim that you can call it for additional information.
