I have a P-IV 3.2 Ghz proc, the NEC ND-3520AW drive and 1.5GB of RAM. I get speeds of only ~4.0x-7.0x in EAC's secure ripping mode. What is funny is that before formatting my computer, I used to rip a CD at 12-20x in the secure mode and after formatting, the ripping speeds reduced drastically. No EAC settings were changed becasue I was using the same config file.

the drive is operating in UDMA mode 2 and the Nero ASPI layer is installed. Can someone help?

Well, it depends on the disc. For me for example, the ripping speeds are usually between 4X and 8X. But once or twice, the ripping speed reached 15X.

I know it sometimes depends on the disc. That is why I added the 'before-after' comparison for the same disc. I can now confirm this with all the discs I ripped before; they rip slower after the HDD format.

I usually get around ~4X to ~6X in secure mode with no C2.

Typically 16-24X with Plextor Premium and PX-712A. Yes, that's with cache override off.

Hi,
Sorry for bringing this topic back up, but it seemed better than posting a new one.

I just bought myself a new Plextor PX-740A drive.
Has anyone got some experiences with this drive that they would like to share?
Also, what are peoples average ripping speeds with Plextor drives?
Is there an existing topic somewhere on HA that I have missed?

I usually get speeds of 5X - 13X. I have one disc that likes to be ripped at 1X. rolleyes.gif

Anywhere from about 7x-20x with an NEC ND-3500AG.
