I have a quick question about a particular setting in EAC. I have been using LAME 3.90.3 with the alt-preset-standard setting for quite some time now. I am thinking of trying out a higher encode setting (just for giggles) and there is an area in EAC where you can manually select the bitrate (underneath the LAME command line), which I normally set at 192 kbps when using alt-preset-standard.

My question is... what is this bitrate setting for? I thought LAME automatically configures the VBR bitrate when you tell it how to encode with the settings in the command line. In any event, can someone explain to me what the story is with this "bitrate setting" in EAC? What should I be selecting when I am encoding with alt-preset-standard and what should I select if I want to use a higher quality encode setting like alt-preset-extreme for example?

Thanks.

You can access the bitrate value in the dropdown list using the %r placeholder, For Example:

--alt-preset %r %s %d

So, if you selected 192 kBit/s in the Bit Rate drop-down list, the command line would be:

LAME.EXE --alt-preset 192 %s %d

So basicly if your not using %r in your commandline, then what you have selected in the bitrate box has no effect.
