Full Version: Ripping DVD audio? / the format in general

I have a couple DVD-audio discs, and I've been trying to understand exactly what they are and how to rip them. This is what I understand about the format so far:

Quality:
Dvd audio is 24 bit (opposed to 16 bit cd) and provides better sound in some peoples opinion then cd.
Also it's sampled at 48Hz (opposed to 44Hz on cd).

Ripping:
In trying to rip the audio I used Dvd audio extractor, but I believe it's only extracting 16 bit, 48Hz, ac3 files. Which I believe sound better then regular cd, but I understand this is not the real high resolution DVD-audio. The audio is self is encrpted with CPPM. Is there anyway to actually rip the real dvd audio tracks at full resolution and then compress them (to ALAC, FLAC, APE or WMA lossless)??

Any clearification would be helpful. smile.gif

Read my favorite HA thread ever. The fun begins at post #40.

You won't find the DVD-A Tools at rarewares anymore. Try googling for dvdaripper and ppcmripper.
