Hey everyone,

I have finally decided to go ahead and get rid of my WMA Lossless collection by converting it to another lossless codec. The reason for this decision reflects on all the problems I am having in Linux with tags and overall support of WMA. The Lossless codec I am willing to convert to is FLAC.

I just wanted to add that I have done my research yet have not found any guide or even any information regarding this procedure.

Now, what I need from you is not only your opinion but also your recommendation on the following questions:

-Will the conversion to another lossless codec have any kind of loss in audio quality?
-Will the tags be kept?
-Your recommendation on how to actually convert the .WMA files to .FLAC.

2. probably not, unless you find a way to export the tags to a file, perhaps, and then retag using that file -- fairly complicated (or unless foobar2000 can read wma lossless...)
3. Either foobar, if it works in this case (wma ? ) - or uncompress to wav, then compress to flac, command-line. Or with a script/batch of some sort.

If I recall, you should be able to do this with DBPowerAmp, and still keep the tags. No quality loss.

Are there any other programs that are more adequate for large collections?

Don't know, but my collection is about 500GB, and I've used DBpoweramp to convert all of it at one time or another.

i too would use dbpoweramp. its good software, well designed. of course i use foobar2000 for almost all of my conversions, except when i need to convert from or to wma, in which case i use dbpoweramp.

another vote for dBPowerAmp
I only use foobar2000 for converting multi-track audiobooks into large single files, which AFAIK dBPowerAmp cannot do.
For lossless transcoding, dBPowerAmp is absolutely ideal.

I can't seem to find a way to convert my large collection as I don't really feel like going through 200+ folders one by one to convert them. Any way I can just select a folder and convert all .wma in it's subfolders? Thanks, sorry if I may of overlooked something.

Use the dMC File Selector with dbPoweramp. You only have too select the top level folder. I've done this many times.
