Using Freedb and EAC/Lame I now have the track info loading automatically and am ripping CDs into folders on my Archos... the only catch is that they still appear in these folders in alphabetical order, not the order on the CD, which is a pain when it comes to playing them back!
Any ideas? This didn't happen with Windows Media Player.

Go to EAC > EAC Options. Select the Filename tab.
Create a "Naming scheme" that uses the tracknumber as a prefix to the file name.
Mine is:
A%\%C\%N - %T
... which will result in:
<artist>\<album>\<track> - <title>

Thanx! I'm getting there... hope all is well in sunny Exeter - just a bit up the road in Devizes myself.

Well I never.
Thanks again but it didn't work...
Just ripped Peter Gabriel III - first track is 'Intruder' but first track in my folder is 'And through the wire', dammit!!!

So, you are ripping to track files using LAME.
Are you using LAME.EXE as an External Encoder? If so, what is your command line please?
What naming scheme are you using? (Filename tab of EAC Options.)

Hi - the first time I pasted in your A%\%C\%N - %T line I must have done something wrong.
Seems to be working Ok now but I'll report back after a few more CDs.
Thanks again!

I guess if it's working you've sussed it out, but the text should actually be:
%A\%C\%N - %T
Sorry - spelling mistake.

Ha! It was copying fine into my harddrive but going all alphabetical when I put the folder into my Archos.
Time to try again, methinks!
