Full Version: XMMS flac plugin -- where to get it?

I want to listen to my archive of FLAC files on my Linux box (SUSE Linux 9.2) at work, using XMMS 1.2.10. Unfortunately, the installation of XMMS there lacks the flac plugin.

The sourceforge flac page makes the solution sound so simple:
"xmms plugin
All that is necessary is to copy libxmms-flac.so to the directory where XMMS looks for input plugins (usually /usr/lib/xmms/Input or $HOME/.xmms/Input). There is nothing else to configure. Make sure to restart XMMS before trying to play any .flac files. "

Great. I know where that Input directory lives on my system. I've verified that the flac plugin is absent. So , where can I download libxmms-flac.so ?

It's not part of the flac distribution AFAICT. It's not on the XMMS site I see references to it everywhere on the web but not place to actually get it. Someone please point me at it.

Open Yast2 and search for "flac-xmms", then install the package (check the box and click accept). Or install directly with this RPM.

It's not done to just shove files into /usr, even when that would work just fine (like in this case). For one thing you have to be root or in su mode to write to /usr, and for another the system should know what's installed for dependency management.

Thanks, I'll ask the IT folks here to consider it.
