I believe it depends on how DivX themselves licensed the MPEG4 IP, and if there aren't any catches in DXN's EULA.

Think about it... you can get several MP3 encoders for free (WMP10, iTunes, MusicMatch...). So, if I have any of these, I'm automatically eligible to use LAME all I want?

well, i think it should be, cause what they ask you (fh for example), is to pay for the idea ... so if i buy the license, i can use whatever implementation ... or that's my reasoning ... that doesn't means they could try to put something on their EULAs

QUOTE(rjamorim @ Sep 30 2005, 07:26 PM)
for instance, we wouldn't be seeing interesting drugs being developed (it literally costs billions of dollars to release a new drug in the market) if laboratories wouldn't have guarantee of investment return.

my familly actually has a clinic, and i can tell you that the laboratories are as thieves as all the others ...

They are not thieves. They are corporations. Corporations want money. As much as possible. And they play dirty if needed be. Welcome to the capitalist world.

The day you see a successful corporation that lives out of people's charity, please come and tell me.

Laboratories are greedy? Good for them. I'd rather live in a world with greedy laboratories than live in old China and depend on wacko herbal and animal formulas to cure my ailings.

Your agreement is with DivX and not with the MPEG-LA, so you will have to go by their licensing terms and I think those are quite clear in that the "rights" you "obtain" with buying DivX are not transferable to other software, at least last time I checked. This whole "I can use XviD because I bought DivX" is a bit silly anyway as I doubt using XviD for private purposes without paying anything would even be against MPEG-LA licensing terms.

you are two conformist roberto, is just a shame, someone as young as you ... capitalism is not really the way to go (neithet is comunism) ... have you heard of "empresarial responsabilities"? would you just say, well, the amazona is disappearing, corporations don't care about amazona ... come on roberto ... you sound like an 80 years old millionaire ...

I'd rather be a conformist that people enjoy to hang out with than a reactionary activist people would rather avoid as if was the pest (yes, I'm talking about you, Javier. I won't be hypocrite here)

And I won't get into the capitalism versus communism discussion here. Specially because this debate lost all merit some 20 years ago. Communism lost, capitalism won. End of story. If you dislike capitalism, go live in Mars or maybe North Korea (not Cuba because I suppose Castro will die any time now, and then it'll probably go back to capitalism)

Yes, they don't. What am I going to do about it? Go and chain myself to a tree? Picket at said corporations' doorsteps? Hush.

I sound like a pessimist that has no hope for mankind. Simple as that. I know there are grave issues facing the world these days, but I have no self-empowerment delusions that I can make a difference. That's just a standard activism catch phrase. YOU can make a difference only if you are at the head of one of these picketeering organizations, controlling their pro-life pro-nature against-globalization against-neoliberalism masses.

And ignorant masses that just blindly follow the leader make me sick.

The second line in that page turned me off. I don't need another heavily biased anti-Microsoft diatribe from Linux zealots. If I needed, I would just drop by Slashdot at any given time.

But thank-you anyway.

too sad roberto, you really sound smart for many things, but not not when you talk about this kind of problems ... maybe in 10/20 years ... too sad.

that is so low on you ... what you know what people actually think of me? it is such an incredibly childish comment on you ...

edit3: i would give you a list of "reactionary activists" you can google arround and read what they thought:
john lennon
mahatma ghandi
madre teresa de calcuta
...
they are plenty more, but start with them...

Of course I hope the same. But that's just a hope. I'm powerless to make any guarantees in that regard. And I won't go around poking whines at big corporations (your favourite nemesis) just to present myself as a rebel against the "system".

Lennon is remembered for what he sung and composed, not what he thought.

QUOTE
mahatma ghandi

Ghandi had a legitimate cause - independency for his country. Not some childish ideologies - like Lennon had, or these anti-corporation anti-globalization people have.

QUOTE
madre teresa de calcuta

Mother Theresa, likewise, is remembered for her charity work, not what she thought.

Now, if you want to talk about meaningful activists that are remembered for what they thought and fought for and not for trying to just stir some controversy (that rules out Bono, Sartre and Malcolm X), I would list:

Martin Luther King
Ghandi himself
The sufragists
etc.

All of them had valid, well thought-out causes. They didn't just adhere to some mindless ready-made cause like "let's fight corporations", "let's fight capitalism"...

(Nearly?) Nobody listens to Imagine because of its humanitarian content. They listen to it because it's a beautiful song, with beautiful melody and poetry.

I know she was trying to make that. Nearly nobody remembers her for that, and the Vatican isn't going to cononize her for that, but because of some badly wretched and hurried sanctification process involving some hardly verifiable miracle.

Talking about that, please do an advanced english course, or at least pass your posts through a spell checker.
