I downloaded the new Lame, etc.

now when I open EAC, and go to compression options, and browse for the new encoder and select it.

where it says additional command line options, I have --alt preset standard.

i heard that in this new version there is a better option? --v or something like that?

can someone explain this to me and tell me what i should put in that box.

For sticking with the standard preset use:

-V2 --vbr-new %s %d

Note that the --vbr-new switch is now recommended for using with the -Vn presets because it gives equal or better quality and a speed increase.

Thank you very much. Sorry for my sounding like an idiot, I don't really get into all the technical stuff with Lame.

Just to make sure, I put in all of this, right?

"-V2 --vbr-new %s %d"

just without the quotes.
skelly831
Yep. Glad I could help.

I believe you need to put a space between V and 2, as in "-V 2..."
skelly831
It works both ways.

This works fine, however, the bitrate is a bit low for my liking. It is around 160-190, I am used to 190-320. How can I change this?
Frank Bicking
Maybe use -V1 --vbr-new.

As far as quality is conerned, V2 should result in a similar or maybe better quality than previous versions with a lower bitrate.

That's called progress.
skelly831
You could try going up to -V1 or -V0 with --vbr-new, but be informed that the bitrate drop is because the encoder has been improved and therefor does not require higher bitrates to provide the same high quality.

EDIT: Frank_Bicking was faster.

Rule # 1: Never judge the quality of a music-piece by just looking at the resulting bitrate which the codec generates !
