Full Version: 3.97 beta 1.... problems?

Hi guys,
I read on Rarewares that 3.97 beta 1 is now the "recommended version". I don't know if that's the "official" recommendation from the developers, or just the guys at Rarewares (maybe they're one and the same, I don't know).
Anyway, I just encoded 2 files using RazorLame as a front end, at CBR 320.
And I got this....

QUOTE
Command: C:\Program Files\Lame\Encoder\3.97 b1\lame.exe -b 320 -ms "G:\Annual reports\2005\!Mixes\1967.wav" "G:\Z Backup\Compile\1967.mp3"
LAME 3.97 (beta 1, Sep 29 2005) 32bits (http://www.mp3dev.org/)
CPU features: MMX (ASM used), SSE (ASM used), SSE2
Using polyphase lowpass filter, transition band: 20094 Hz - 20627 Hz
Encoding G:\Annual reports\2005\!Mixes\1967.wav
      to G:\Z Backup\Compile\1967.mp3
Encoding as 44.1 kHz 320 kbps stereo MPEG-1 Layer III (4.4x) qval=3
RazorLame encountered an unknown message from LAME while trying to encode "G:\Annual reports\2005\!Mixes\1967.wav"!

That's just the error message for one of the files, but I got the same error for the other file too.
Despite the error messages, the MP3 files play ok.
Anyone know why there should be an issue?

Is not a problem with LAME, is a problem with RazorLame... and has been mentioned several times here...

RazorLame interpret like an error that LAME want add a replygain information in the mp3... this is basicaly new and RazorLame hasnīt been updated for a while... so Razor lame donīt know that LAME is adding that information and interpret it like an unknown message but is not a problem of LAME.

RazorLame works fine with olders versions of LAME that donīt have that feature of replygain... you maybe should use something like foobar....

Read this . This ought to convince you that it's HA.org's recommendation.

Read this and the topic linked later in it for more information about the RazorLame 'error'.

As has been said you should consider using something newer as a LAME frontend. foobar2000 would be good but there are others which should also be more modern and, by now, functional.

simply read the sticky topic of this forum about lame recommendations.
is there a link to razorlame ?
No, so it isn't recomemnded anymore.
Instead of razorlame you can use All2lame, or foobar2000.

To elaborate on my suggestions more, I can vouch for the quality of foobar2000 as a LAME frontend: it has out-of-the-box support for the most common VBR profiles and will automatically transfer all found tag fields from your source file(s) to the resulting MP3 files.

Thanks for the replies one and all.
I didn't know about the RazorLame problem. Damn shame, 'cause I liked it as a frontend. It was nice and neatly laid out, it was simple to understand, etc etc.
Oh well.
I have to admit, I have looked at Foobar a couple of times and I just don't get it. It's not intuitive at all.
If anyone can explain how you get it to convert a wav to an mp3, I'll give it another look, but I couldn't even find a command that looked anything remotely like "encode" anywhere in the interface.
Nor could I see anywhere in the options where I could tell it where to find the Lame CODEC on my system.
I know everyone here at HA thinks it's the duck's guts, but I'm just not a fan of it. Sorry. smile.gif
All2Lame looks ok though.
Skylined ;)~
You can still use the RazorLame, I tried it with 1.1.5

Goto Lame Options in the Expert tab and select
"only use custom commands"

and enter -V0 --vb-new or whatever you like...

Should work fine, I tried it a few weeks back...
You would just get an error in the log, but the mp3's will be encoded.

Try LameDropXPD2 from rarewares if you want

Check it and see if it works

Hi audio2u,
my signature should have some practical value wink.gif try out www.High-Quality.ch.vu - Audio Guides & Tutorials , there is a foobar2000 basic guide here: http://www.angelfire.com/magic2/hq-audio/l...hort-guide.html
Encoding is called Convert in the foobar gui. Mark some files, right-click, select convert (settings).

Hmmmm, maybe I'm thick, but I didn't find any info about how to convert wav to mp3.
I've looked all through the Foobar preferences, and if I understand it correctly, the Compnents/Diskwriter/Output presets field is where I should be able to find Lame MP3, but I don't. All that's listed there is "wav (pcm, 32 bit)" and "wav (pcm, fixed point)".
There's no mention of Lame in the Component libraries section, either. Not sure if there should be or not, just thought I'd mention it.
I'm tryin' guys, believe me, I'm tryin'.

You'll need foo_clienc and then you can use LAME via commandline with foobar2000.
user
it might depend on your foobar2k version, I have written in the guide, one should use the Case special installer, dunno, if the special installer is still called "by Case", hosted by him, or not, at least, I know for sure, you can get a "special installer" nowadays directly from the foobar2000 page.

Same with converting wav to mp3. Even if the guide tackles currently only converting Lossless (flac) to mpc, everything else is similar, replace Lossless (flac, wavpack, ape etc.) with wav as source, and replace target mpc with mp3.

Well even with the special installer (at least for 0.8.3) you have to make sure you install foo_clienc when you run it. But it does come with it smile.gif
