Full Version: Newbie Question On Sending Parameters To Lame

I am new to MP3 and have been following much info here about encoding MP3's, etc.

I have downloaded EAC and Lame. I am using EAC to ripping my music and Lame (from within EAC) to encode them. I am trying to use the alt-preset standard to encode my songs. My question is, within EAC under compression Options there is a place to put in the command line options for LAME. The current setting is "%l--alt-preset 128%l%h--alt-preset standard%h %s %d". Based on this it looks like I have too much info in there right? WOuld I be best off and removing everything from the string and literally writing "alt-preset standard" or do I need some of the %h and %s things?

Also the the same screen also has a place for me to select the bit rate I wish. I defaults to 192. Is this something I should worry about or does the comman line options overright whichever is under bit rate anyway?

If there is a link on how to do this within EAC I would appreciate it as well.

Thank you and be gentle on the newbie.

Hi,

"%l--alt-preset 128%l%h--alt-preset standard%h %s %d"

... is just for the low/high quality switch in the options. It means: if you choose "low quality", "--alt-preset 128" will be used, if you choose "high", the commandline will be "--alt-preset standard", followed by %s %d for both.

You can replace the complete line by "--alt-preset standard %s %d". The two variables are needed to tell Lame the filenames of the input and output file, it will be replaced by the filenames when EAC executes the encoder.

Must I add the "%s" and "%d" in the Command Line Options, even I'm encoding OGG?
What I want to know exactly being where can I find the meaning of Parameters in EAC ? Is there any documents which I can refer to?

It seems that the "%s" and "%d" are a MUST, and besieds them, I can use some normal LAME Parameters such as "-V1 -q2 -c -p" in the Command Line Options w/ User Defined Encoder in EAC. Am I right?

And I would llike to encode some music from CD w/ OGG encoder. Is there only 1 encoder available (the 'offical' encoder?) ? And how could I encode songs w/ TAGs (e.g. Tags of Album, Songer, Track Number...) w/ EAC?

P.S. I use "-q 6" for encode CDs to OGG but without Tags.

Thanks

Try this post to figure out a working commandline to tag ogg's within EAC !!! (!) (Search in the forum for more answers and be happy (w00t) )
