Hello,

I use Foobar primarily to mass transcode FLAC files to MP3 using LAME. My understanding is that when you use DiskWriter to do this, Foobar itself won't attempt to add or write any tags of any kind to the new file? Is this correct? Can it be configured to write tags as part of the diskwriter conversion process? Currently, I use LAME command line options (specified in the diesksriter encoder parameters) to transfer the tags embedded in the original FLAC files to the new MP3 files. It seems ot work fine, I just want to understand whether Foobar/diskwriter can do any tag writing itself.

Thanks!

If you are using a CLI preset then there is an option whether to write tags or not.

In 0.8.3 this is a dropdown list with available tagging options. In 0.9 I believe it's just a checkbox, which will presumably write tags in the default tag system for those files, or according to the "Tag writing" settings in Preferences.

Edit: FYI I actually tag via LAME's command line. a. I like to use the ID3v1 + ID3v2 only if necessary feature, and b. It means you can limit the tags to only those you want.

0.8.3 Dialogue, taken from this page. Dropdown is mid height.

Thank you! I thought I'd looked in the encoder parameters dialog for tag settings, but obviously not.

By the way, when you select default for tags with a Commandline encoder, will Foobar automatically select the right type of tag? How does it know?
